Does anyone know if Class 144s and 155s are no longer diagrammed at all on the above route since the summer timetable begun last month? I ask because I have only seen 150s and 158s on the route.

Yesterday evening, the 18:23 service left Leeds around 24 minutes late packed to the gunnels. It was only a single Class 150/1 unit. Prior to the timetable change, this service started 10 minutes earlier and was usually a 3 car Class 144, which only just provided enough capacity to cover the number of passengers using the service.

Majority of these are now booked Class 155 and Class 158s (both 2/3 cars). Rarely see Class 144s on this route now. Saw 158758 on the 15:26 Man Vic-Leeds the other week, and the 17:26 ex-Man Vic was 158859, absolutely jam packed.

During the peaks is suppose to be 2x 14x 2+3 car units. Rest of the time its suppose to be a 144 trundling back and forth.

There also don't appear to be many 150 diagrams on the Calder Valley anymore. Not sure where the pacers have ended up as even the Leeds - Huddersfield stoppers seems to be a 150 and a 158 now

There's usually at least one pacer on HUD-SHF (of the 3 units used prior to the evening changeover) and Huddersfield-Wakefield usually has at least one 2-car pacer out of the 2 units used. Knottingley gets pacers a fair bit, too as do the Leeds-Sheffield via Barnsley stoppers.

Sorry to drag this off topic, but..

What is the common traction for the Leeds to Manchester Vic via Bradford? since when I used it before May it was mostly 158.

How long is a piece of string?

155/158s very likely, either solo or with 153s. 150s also fairly common. The stoppers more likely to have a pacer, but pacers on the semi-fast is not unheard of.

Thanks for the reply - I should have realised that because it was a Northern service the stock would change every 5 minutes.

Since the timetable changes the stoppers are linked in with the semi-fasts, so a typical diagram is

Leeds - Halifax - Manchester Victoria stopper
Manchester Victoria - Brighouse - Leeds
Leeds - Manchester Victoria semi fast
Manchester Victoria - Leeds semi fast
Leeds - Brighouse - Manchester Victoria
Manchester Victoria - Halifax - Leeds stopper

The vast majority of diagrams see 155s or 158s with some peak services strengthened such as the 1723 Leeds - Brighouse - Manchester being 142+158 and 1548 Manchester - Selby being 3 car 158+153

A few months from the timetable change, is there any update on what stock appears on this service now?

Specifically the 0826 Leeds to Man Vic and the 1725/1826/1926 from Man Vic to Leeds.

I'm going to be travelling for leisure with someone who doesn't use trains very often and if there is a chance of a 144 or god forbid a 142, I may alter my plans and use TPE via Huddersfield instead.

1725 should be 153+158
1826 should be 153+155
1926 should be 158 (3 car)

It's very rare for a pacer to be on the Calder Valley now, although the 1723 from Leeds has a 142 tagged on to a 158 for strengthening

I've been to Dewsbury station twice in the last week. I've seen 150's and 158's on the Man Vic services. I've only seen one pacer on the Hudds line this week and it was a 143 doing a Hudds-Leeds services. However, on RTT some of the services that were 150's were supposed to be 142's.

So the odds of a pacer look slim, but possible.

I haven't travelled that frequently since May, but have noticed that Pacers seem to have disappeared from service on the Calder Valley lines even on the Brighouse route and the the later services from Leeds where they were common.

So where have these extra Sprinters come from? And where have the Pacers gone? I haven't seen any howls of protest from people complaining that Pacers have replaced Sprinters elsewhere.

Are the Todmorden terminators not pacers?

From what I've seen, there's 3 diagrams of the Selby - Huddersfield services which are now pacers with one being the 1723 Leeds - Brighouse - Manchester strengthening unit. I think the 1629 Leeds - Harrogate - York has gone from being 155+142 to 14x+14x.

Todmorden turnbacks generally see 150s or 156s but 142s pop up every now and then. 144s occasionally turning up at Vic but its pretty rare now!

The 18:26 tonight was a 155 and 153 (155341 and 153363 to be exact)
