When i passed today, on the Fareham line, I noticed that most of the trackwork on the North side just inside the entrance to the works has been lifted, is this going to be relaid as was or are they changing the track layout? and if so why?

There have been changes to the track layout, they are opening up another of the sheds to use as a diesel loco repair shed (I think).

That is part of one of Arlington Fleet Services stages to increase the works layout and sizes. The former wheel drop shed (the former KRS Office building) is to become the new 2 road diesel running shed with built in Pit, whilst the track on the inner entrance to the works is being relayed as the paintshop will be moving into a new much larger purpose built space inside the former Bay 1 North - this was last I think used by BR or Wessex Traincare before the modern warehouse extension was put up and the track to that part of the works was removed. I'm not sure if the plans will see a second loop added along the side of the works, that was a wish a few years back when I was in the place.

This map is a few years old - before Arlington had cleared the southern end of the works and laid track to the southern entrances to the works building, but it gives you an idea of the layout.

There are photos of the site, locos, stock, etc on Carl Watsons photo pages.
Its well worth a look through.

New running shed and paint shop are shown along with many images over the recent years.

Its good to see the railway works gradually increasing its activities.
