This is a purely hypothetical question as I don't have to buy my own ticket and forgive me if this has been discussed before.
The 1630 VT service from Euston to Glasgow is classed as a peak service for anyone travelling to Preston. According to Trainline a single to Preston on tomorrow's departure would cost £117
However a single to Penrith would only be £97 because the train is not classed as peak for tickets to Penrith.
So, what is to stop someone buying a Penrith ticket and getting off at Preston? The train manager won't notice. But if that person was stopped at Preston by an RPI what is likely to happen.
