Go for it, if you're confident fixing it yourself. Be sure to check it's the the correct screen. Some manufacturers have different screens for different batches of the same model. Also, when you open it up, be careful of those flat cables, they're quite fragile and can tear. A good site to check for teardown information would be ifixit

You smashed a Lumia screen?! I've regularly dropped my phone, both my both previous Lumia 800 and current 1020 from various heights onto ballast, concrete etc and never had a problem!

Lumia screens are not unbreakable. They are toughened in many respects but are particularly vulnerable in the corners. If it drops full on corner first onto the ground at around 45 degrees it would have had it by the time you pick it up.

Lumia screens are not unbreakable. They are toughened in many respects but are particularly vulnerable in the corners. If it drops full on corner first onto the ground at around 45 degrees it would have had it by the time you pick it up.

Mine must be made of something galactic as my 1020 recently dropped on its corner onto ballast from my pocket climbing into a loco, at that point I even thought f**k as that was the worst drop i've had of a phone but the only damage is literally a dent to the top left corner

Ha ha. I only worked there for three months but you could tell by the look on a call handlers face when they had a customer with a Blackberry on. Amazed how long they have stayed in business.

Maybe you're just a bit too new and short lived in the industry I've been working in mobile for over ten years, long enough to remember when Samsung made cheap handsets, HTC made handsets for other people and didn't have a brand. Nokia flew high and snuffed themselves out and the iPhone was unthinkable.

BlackBerry shot themselves by bringing out cheap handsets, but you pay for what you get. If you want a cheap phone, expect it to break if you drop it.

Also, BlackBerry have what a lot of companies would kill for,a loyal brand following. I've know so many people who stick with BlackBerry because they're well designed and have a holy item attached to them, a real keyboard

Samsung handsets still aren't that good, particularly the Touchwiz modifications :roll:. My dad's Galaxy Ace bricked itself after freezing , while mine and my aunt's S3 slowed down badly within a few months. I remember our first mobile phone, a Nokia 3210 bought in 2000 when T-Mobile was still one2one and still worked without problems 6 years later when it got relegated as a spare phone

Possibly but the people I worked with who had been there a while refered to Blackberrys as Sh*tberrys and not just the cheap ones. A lot of people who had expensive ones had something way beyond what they needed and did not have a clue how to use it and even if they did they didn't work very well.

I have a Moto G now and it works faultlessly even after I accidentally threw it on the pavement 3 weeks after buying it. I will admit to being part of the Moto G fan club as it does far more than most people need and is cheap.
