Lake Geneva Paddlesteamer Classes - differences?

I'm going on the Rhone Paddlesteamer from Lausanne to Geneva in 5 weeks and don't know if to go 2nd or 1st class. I hope to have lunch on board too.

Is food included in the price?

Does the food differ between classes?

Which would you recommend?

If you want the best in Swiss travel you have to do first class and bear the cost, which looks like CHf 110. Try exploring this website if you haven't already:

I once sailed on a diesel boat from Montreaux around Lake Geneva and I can say that the onboard meal is separate from the fare. The difference between 1st class and 2nd class is that 1st class gets on a higher deck - if you can afford 1st class, go for it!

On a normal "cruise" the food should not be included (Lake Zurich/Lucerne).

Pricewise i would never choose 1 Class over 2 Class on a boat.

Go 1st class even just to see the interior of the magnificent "Belle Epoque" Dining Saloons of the steamers, it's not something you do every day so treat yourself!

110CHF doesn't seem too bad including a 3 course meal for an extra 49CHF on top of the normal single fare.

It's a one off, being wanting to do it for over a decade, we're arriving at Lausanne (Montreux) via the Goldenpass Classic so the Belle Epoque dining room will complement that.

Not travelled on the Lake Geneva steamers (seen one from the shore, and it looked great), but I was thoroughly impressed by a trip on a Lake Lucerne paddle steamer - absolutely immaculate ship, right down - or up, if you like engineering - to the polished engine room, and with staff in period uniform to match.

While the prices for tourist things in Switzerland can make you wince, they do know how to do it properly, so just close your eyes and hand over the credit card for the best ticket you can afford....

The Lake Geneva steamers are built to a larger and more "sea-going" style than the other Swiss paddlers and indeed the one I sailed on "La Suisse" is I believe the largest Swiss paddler, the big compound diagonals at full steam are an impressive sight. ac6000cw is right don't think of the cost, you'll have a great time!

First class is generally the upper deck(s) - second the embarkation deck and below

So you will see more from first class

Is it worth it? That's where your own value system comes into play
