Smashed screen: Nokia Lumia

This link Is what I am thinking of buying because I accidently smashed my screen on my Nokia Lumia 520.

This is the first time I have smashed any screen before. The phone still works perfectly, just cant see the screen!!!

Question: Would this 'cure' my smashed screen? I mean, could I take the old screen off and put this one on and it would still work?

I can't remember what I used, but I've repaired a Nokia Lumia screen before - replaced the screen as you say above and it worked absolutely fine, but it was fiddly and could have gone wrong if care wasn't taken. It looked very similar to what you show on that link and then I looked on YouTube for a step by step video guide which showed how to replace the screen.

I guess, it's a risk you've got to be willing to take by doing it on the cheap and repairing it yourself.

Don't know if you have a warranty but the minute you start messing with you phone it will be invalid.

Its £78 to replace the screen through Nokia. Do you think that item of ebay would work and I used a youtube video, like this one:

My phone is the same phone I've had since 2005! The battery life is amazing, does everything a smartphone does, it's been dropped, thrown and battered and not a scratch and works perfectly.

I smashed my Samsung S4 nearly three weeks ago and only got it back on Wednesday. Really had withdrawal symptoms! I've never smashed a phone in my life! I was in exactly the same problem; the phone worked perfectly but the screen went grey!

Luckily I only had to pay £25 to get it repaired!

Enjoy Seriously though that's definitely the worst bit, I was much more worried about how my parents would react when I smashed my Galaxy ace, than bothered about it happening.
It's at times like this I'm glad my parents have no clue when it comes to tech and I could use a number of excuses somehow they believed them

Answering the OP instead of wibbling on about how good you are would be more useful!

Anyway to the OP, it is possible to change a screen as long as you work in a clean, well lit area and have plenty of suitable(IE very small) tools, your Black & Decker drill wont be much use , take your time and make sure you place all the bits logically on the table not in one big pile and do not try and force anything, if it wont move then there is a reason.

It will probably take about an hour to an hour and half.

No, that is only the digitizer - the bit that reads the touches.
You would need the lcd display.

Ye and I have seen a video on Facetube on how to do it. A Package on ebay for £12 inclueees the screen and a tool kit. Suppose I might try that.

The 800 900 and 1020 have "gorilla glass" the cheaper 520 doesn't.

Based on the above mentioned price, a 520 is cheaper than the screen cost, as the 520 is only around £60

You should be able to do it, as long as it is the digitizer and not the lcd screen underneath, i brought one of those kits of ebay for an ipad screen. Followed a youtube video and did it ok ( the only thing id change is not to use a hair dryer but a heat gun). Good luck and give it a try.

Have you got a Nokia Care store near you? They usually do it at a much reduced price than actually sending it off to Nokia themselves to repair.

I've had the huge Nokia Lumia 1320 for a while and the amount of abuse I've flung at it and managing to survive is quite something...
