As long as the train doesn't catch fire, leaves on time and arrives on time I'm with A-driver in really not minding who wins. All existing rail companies appear equally incompetent at running a service and answering customer enquiries. New blood is desperately needed.

With either First or Govia winning you won't have that. Stagecoach you did but do you really want to have new hands with so many changes coming you risk a lot of disruption while new people get used to the patch in multiple different phases.

He is a huge anti-First troll, thanks to some vendetta he has against FCC, believing that he was wrongly dismissed. Take everything he says with a bucket of salt.

It wasn't what he said, it was the response that he got, but the reply was quickly deleted!

I doubt the the official FCC account responded to this tweet as they strictly don't communicate with that account, or with the other anti FCC accounts (or my favourite twitter account which is "francopicco1" who calls himself "off peak traveller"...he defends FCC but hates drivers. Only issue is that he hasn't got a clue what he is on about and the stuff he says about drivers is hilariously wrong and pathetic. Apparently we are on £70k a year foe a 2 day 24 hour week and weekends are voluntary and we don't actually have to work during the week if we don't want to...

The anti-TOC accounts really give me a laugh. The @Southern_Trains one is my favourite but that one is genuinely funny and when people do have a proper question they tend to pass them to the real Southern team. @Delayed_Again for Greater Anglia is hilariously bad! Whoever runs it seems to live in a completely different world to most of us!

For those wondering the tweet basically said 'We will be releasing a statement shortly.'

"We will be releasing a statement shortly" dosnt give much away as the question asked was one of those that tricks an answer out of you that can be taken the wrong way...a bit like the old question "do you still beat your wife?", no matter how you answer it you are admitting to wife beating!

I had a SWT one call me a "train wanker" when I called him out for saying that SWT were making up excuses when a passenger was reported to have had a heart attack on a train at Wimbledon. I replied that "I'd rather be a train wanker than a heartless c***"

Although a brand new one this morning had a go at a SWT driver on Twitter, well he wasn't happy at being questioned over not having a valid ticket, calling the RPIs thugs

I read on Twitter earlier - @FirstPlatform (FCCRailFail) - that Go Ahead had won it. It seems the tweet has been deleted now though.

Could be someone who has read this thread, or similar elsewhere, and jumped to conclusions? Thus, that Tweet doesn't actually confirm this rumour.

Sadly, most commuters will be expecting a sudden improvement in the service if another TOC wins the franchise, but in reality, it's not that attainable straight away.

There's not much a TOC can do when Network Rail's infrastructure lets them (Overhead wire problems being the concern of most TL commuters at the moment)

TL is going to be very tough for any new TOC, especially with the upgrade programme still underway.

Same problem for FCC throughout ALL of its franchise on the TL side, and the cause of most of the hatred towards First and FCC. On the GN side, I'd say they've done a great job since the Wagn days. Maybe others could have done more, but I can't imagine what. Admittedly, some of the changes of MD weren't great and communication with the public was disappointing at times but it seems to have got a lot better in the last year or so, mirroring the attention to detail from Elaine Holt at the outset.

Ultimately, when the franchise winner announces its grand plans it's going to sound quite impressive. And many will say 'Yeah, FCC never did any of that' but not appreciate that we're approaching the completion of the TL project, the DfT has specified new timetables, and we'll be getting some pretty impressive trains, and we'll get smartcard ticketing etc.

There's obviously SOME flexibility in the franchise for individual companies to decide on, but not that much. I do wonder if the winner will have saved money by keeping the 313s a bit longer and would love to know what the losers offered.

It seems to be a franchise where it might not pay to offer too much to the passenger, but rather keep the Government happy. Thus, the winner might actually not be the best deal.

Oh, and when things to tits up through the core as they invariably will and cause loads of problems on the BML, MML and ECML - the new operator is really going to get it in the neck. The honeymoon period will soon be over.

@Delayed_Again for Greater Anglia is hilariously bad! Whoever runs it seems to live in a completely different world to most of us!

And keeps hijacking any conversations I have with AGA too.

Anyone interested have a look at rail magazine issue 748(may'14) page 25, top right hand, second article down.

Already been discussed on the thread. Again it doesn't mean anything as its could be a misunderstanding on Rail behalf, they've got things wrong before on simple things.

I know it's been discussed-I brought it up! Was just pointing out the details now I have seen the page again.

Rumours and atmosphere at work certainly points to FCC loosing it.

On the flip side to that I heard a couple of conversations yesterday at work that Southern (Govia) had won it. Again no concrete evidence of course just what I had overheard.

If true on either part I wonder if there was any real chance of anyone other than Govia or First winning it?

Rumors in my workplace seem to agree. Different is for me its not just a uniform change.

Stagecoach had a fair chance.

To be honest even if Govia win surely it will be a uniform change? I couldn't imagine them having us walking around driving TSGN trains with "Southern" logo'd uniform on?

I'm rather hoping that the jackets, shirts & trousers will be based on the TLP livery applied to a few 319s...with the rainbow stripes from top to toe. Anything else will be a huge disappointment.

Haha that's brilliant! Is the horse a disguised AVANTIX or just an accessory to go with the uniform?

It's a piece of insulated equipment taken by the pantograph inspector for the purpose of dealing with errant 319s.

"Which unit's pan, driver? Tail end?"

***very bad jokes alert***

Actually it's either a "(horse)shoe fuse key" or (if that one wasn't bad enough) a "manure-al uncoupling bar" (manual uncoupling bar no...get it? No? Never mind).
