Leamington Spa to Penyffordd

Hi all,
I was wandering if anyone could give me fare advice for going to Penyffordd from Leamington Spa?
I will be travelling up on either Thursday 6th of November or Thursday 13th of November and travelling back on Monday 10th of November or Monday 17th of November. This is based on 1 child and here are the timings I have decided on.
(Also please note part of this trip is to try and get some winners so I will be diverting and things). I will also try to book in advance to Chester so I can save money. From Penyffordd on the way back I will book in advance all the way.

I'm assuming you know you wont be able to book for November for some time? (Stupid question I know.....)

On a quick look the only advances currently available are from Penyffordd or Chester to Hereford - and they don't allow the break in Shrewsbury you have scheduled in

So you will be faced with buying anytime or maybe offpeak tickets - I'm sure split ticketing will bring the cost down from the full fare though.

There are advances from Leamington to Chester etc - but they are routed on Virgin via Crewe

Others may come up with something more creative but that's all I have time for at the moment

You probably know your way around the area, but if you get stuck the Arriva 3 Chester-Mold will take you from Chester station to Penyffordd (every half hour).
5/10 minute walk to station.
Don't get the X55 (long walk from cross-roads).

In Fishquinn's position, I'd consider checking the departure boards when I'm at Chester (I've tended to find that the online ones are more accurate than the ones in the station, but I'm not sure if that would be the case in this situation). If the train he wants hasn't left Warrington by the time the train in front is scheduled to leave Chester, it might be safer to get that one.

With regard to tickets, there are a number of return tickets in the area which don't allow you to leave the station part way through on the outbound part of the journey. I'm not exactly sure what Fishquinn intends to do while waiting for the next train, so I don't know if that will be a problem.

I wouldn't suggest anyone travelling on child tickets asks to go for a smoke...

I've noticed a £27.25 combination which works for the suggested route, but I thought it best not to post it here before NRE has a chance to show that it's valid on the requested dates.

As much as I'd like to agree, I'm aware of people my age who started smoking at 11, so it isn't completely out of the realms of possibility.
Although, not exactly the cleverest thing to say if there's a BTP office nearby

WHSmith is outside the barriers at Chester so go for a copy of the Beano instead of a crafty smoke
