There currently aren't any. Is that because Virgin haven't yet loaded advance fares for August, or because there aren't going to be any advance fares in August?

I suspect they haven't loaded them yet. My understanding is that Advance fares tend to be loaded about twelve weeks in advance and August 1 is exactly twelve weeks away. Give it a few days and see what happens.
Edited to add: National Rail has this message about August 1 "It is not yet known how Virgin Trains services will be affected by engineering work from Saturday 26 July to 1 August 2014. Please check back nearer the time of travel." This likely affects the release of Advance tickets.

Thanks so much for this invaluable tip - which no doubt I should have read elsewhere on this site. NRE is indeed currently showing 31 July as the cut-off date for Virgin.
But I can't see any engineering works affecting Virgin on 1 August. Am I being thick about that too?
