East Sussex Coast Resignalling

I understand this has been delayed for a third time now (or perhaps indefinately?) as the scheme should have been commissioned on 12th/13th April.

Is the only reason for the delay due to the LiDAR (and/or RADAR) not working properly at the level crossings or are there other reasons too.

Anyone know if the LC problems have been sorted at Billingshurst?

They were blaming late running on trains via Billingshurst tonight on problems with a level crossing, so I suspect not.

No it's not specifically the LXs that are the problem. It's complicated though.

The principle reason for the job being put back is the contractors inability to get the Interlocking Data Preparation completed to the satisfaction of NR. This is due to a lack of competent Data Prep. Engineers.

Billingshurst Crossing renewal - complete with Lidar - is going ahead this weekend. There was a problem with the Local Control Module that has resulted in a modification being required, this will be implemented this weekend.

Doesn't seem to be a lot of activity at the moment. However, there are new (not yet commissioned) signals on both platforms at Polegate. Both are at the level crossing end. The one on the up line is a replacement for the existing semaphore. However it would appear that the one on the down platform might be for reverse running. It's hard to tell as the signal head is covered up but looks like it is facing the Eastbourne direction. If it was for normal direction running I assume you wouldn't put it immediately after a level crossing. Can anyone shed any light on the new signalling arrangements?

Does the new signalling mean that line capacity will be significantly increased as there appear to be quite a few additional signals along the line compared the the current situation.

Yes headways are coming down and Linespeeds going up in some sections.

NR won't commit a date for the East Sussex resignalling until their contractors can guarantee its reliability!

April 2015 was a date that I was given yesterday, if it can't make that then the whole project might be sidelined (mothballed) between 2 & 7 years! Getting beyond a joke now!

On a brighter note the Arun Valley inclucding the infamous OD crossing at Billingshurst seems to be settling down now.

Now how about sprucing up the existing signalling - e.g. the signal posts could do with a lick of paint...

East Sussex Coast re-signalling (stage 1) will see Bexhill Signal Box, Havensmouth Xing Box, Pevensey & Westham Signalbox, Hampden Park Signalbox, Eastbourne Signalbox, Polegate Signalbox, Berwick Signalbox and the up line at Glynde transferring from Lewes Signalbox to the new workstation.

Now they are talking about October this year again as it seams the three new interlockings areas are now working successfully in shadow mode.
