Derelict Class 47 at Eastleigh

Anybody know whats happening with that Class 47 dumped in the North yard at Eastleigh?
When it arrived, somebody said it was there for a few days. It's now been there a few months and is rusting to the rails.

Sorry to steal your thread but while where on the Eastleigh thing, is the (c) mostly done on the station or yard? because according to Freightmaster theres alot on the station and just wondered does it mean the yard, but at Carlisle there's a yard up the road but still alot is done on the station, also is Eastleigh open all night?

How do you mean?
Eastleigh station has stuff on three sides. The South end is the works and EWS depot, then South East round to the East are used by renewals for disposing of track from relaying sites and as a storage place for GBRf locos.
Then East round to the North East is a big sorting yard. They have a couple of reception sidings for Freightliners to wait for a path onto Southampton.
Right up the back North East corner is the PAD {Pre Assembley Depot} where trains are made up with bits for weekend renewal jobs. So Long Welded Rail trains, Flat wagons for excavators and cranes. Tampers etc also live up there

Most, if not all crew changes at Eastleigh are done on the station.

47791, the dumped duff, was to be used by Colas Rail but when it arrived at Eastleigh there was some problem, so now nobody wants it.

Theres a scrap metal bin on our side of the fence, i'll get one of the welders out there Monday morning with a torch.

Might be able to add something here....might be completely wrong but I did hear from an EWS bloke I know that there was a...

....rumour that when it was unloaded from Road Transport (?) into the yard to be towed to the works for Coras Rail rebirth, somehow the fuel tank was ruptured and spilled anything up to 500 ltrs of diesel onto the trackbed. The reason its not moved is a legal wrangle about who must pay for the cleanup.

Of course, it might also be that someone realised that its completely knackered and not much use for anything accept new fridges!

Only time and a cutters torch will tell!
