Hi all,

Does anyone have any details of the additional Euston-Preston runs which are happening tomorrow, and Friday?

Are they extra Pendos, or are they Mk3's?

Thanks for any info

Thanks for the details 37412.

Unfortunately, I'll probably be doing the Holyhead tomorrow, and the times of the 90 aren't very suitable for me to use it.

Think it was 28 that was on it went me you and Mr Potter did it and the Shack got on at Stafford, thought it was 39 last time though, that was the one I had when me and Dan were off for an overnighter move, I got on it at Wigan (again) after a broken rail caused me to miss the connections, thats twice thats happened, havn't made Preston on it yet!

I saw the illumination from the interior of the passing 390 just south of Wigan at around 17:15 this evening, and assumed that a 390 was running the extra, instead of the 90+mk3 set.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
The 16:50 Euston to Birmingham was cancelled this evening,"due to an unusually large passenger flow".

So large, that they decided to cancel it?

Or could it be something to do with the fact that the 90+Mk3 set was used elsewhere today?

The 19:00 Birmingham to Euston appears to not be running, despite it leaving New Street "on time", and it has vanished from International.

Im told the 90 did 0810 EUS-BHM and 1000ish return.

I was going to do the 1349, but couldn't, so got a Valenta up the MML instead.

I think the 1349 would have been dead as this time the Glasgow train left before it (this wasn't the case on previous occasions). They sensibly had the 2 trains on opposite platforms and directed everyone to the 90 unless they had a reservation for the Glasgow. The Glasgow overtook at Crewe. Not this time - opposite ends of the station and everyone just got the 1346.

An unusually small passenger flow was seen boarding the 1349.

As for cancelling the 1651 due to a large passenger flow - that has to be the oddest excuse I've heard.

So we've gone backwards (again)...

The 16:51 wasn't due to run today. It tends not to run when there is a Euston to Preston afternoon relief working.

Yes, there was hardly anyone getting on the 1349. The releif workings are seldom busy, and tbh, seem to be more "crank-ex's".

Was "large passenger flow" an actual excuse for caping G21?

If so, that is a complete oxymoron. What dunderhead came up with that excuse???

The actual reason was probably more like (bits marked in " are the real reason) smaller than advised "large passenger flow". ;)

Silly delay reasons are rife.

EMT gave out silly excuses yesterday which basically said "the reason for a delay was a delay". Well, not in those words, but it had that effect. I can't remember the exact wording.

Also we were promised the train would "make up time" but obviously Control gave wrong information to the TM as the train ended up put behind endless stoppers. Can't blame the TM as they said it in good faith. But you really have to question the sanity of some people in Control (and that doesn't just go for EMT but other TOCs as well).

I have to say that the Virgin excuse was probably not worded as well as it could have been, but the reason still remains valid...that resources had to be directed elsewhere (somewhere they would be used more productively) due to increased passenger demand.

Let's face it, G21 is primarily a business train due to the saver restrictions (apart from those travelling with YP's) and with the Christmas holidays, less and less 'business people' would be using it. My train home from Donny-Newcastle is usually standing room only on a Thursday/Friday, but this week it was relatively empty. I'm guessing that G21 would have been the same had it run on Thurs/Fri and so the residual demand could be accommodated on the services either side...
