London - Manchester, May 24-26

Hi!

Ill be needing to make a journey from London to Manchester, outbound on May 24th and returning May 26th, traveling lunchtime-ish/early PM on both days. I also have a YP 16-25 Railcard.

With engineering works on the WCML resulting in the removal of the cheap advance tickets with Virgin from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly over the weekend, it means I am rather stuck in finding a return journey for less than £50.

Any advise on ticket splits and alternative routes I can take would be gratefully received!

It's a longer journey, but there are fares available for around £15 to Halifax, then get an off peak return from Halifax to Manchester for £10.15.

That's around £40 total

There might be a better split if you play around a bit.

VT advised on twitter earlier today that adv tics for that weekend will be released 21 April, so may be worth waiting to see what happens then

you could split at Stoke and use london midland, an open return from London Euston to Stoke is £19.15 and takes just over 2 hours...
stoke to manchester return is £7.40 so a total of £26.55 for a flexible ticket, albeit with a change en route...
