Given that most TOC/FOC's HR departments are harder to get hold of than the firing codes of our nuclear missiles, I thought this might be a good place to share details?

Yes or No?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
I take that as a no then?

Why are the details so damn secret? If they kept people informed we wouldn't have to chase.

I must confess the lack of respect for applicants by many companies staggers me. I am sure this is due to volumes, but surely some courtesy could be introduced

I dont really agree to this sort of thread personally. The HR department are not just there for vacancy enquiries, they also, funnily enough, have to deal with all the HR issues from their current staff too and they come first and foremost thankyou.

Given the sheer amount of applicants for roles advertised they can become overwhelmed and do take their time getting through stuff - hell even I have to go through application forms too.

If you dont hear anything back from your application then I apologise on behalf of all the HR teams out there but hassling them isnt really going to do your application much good either.

I totally disagree with that sentiment.

I have worked in "personnel" as it was then, and I would have to trawl through thousands of applications, in the days before PC's, and reply to each one. :D

They say they can't update because of application numbers, but HR departments will get badgered for updates, they should update regularly.

You can disagree if you so wish. And well done for doing just that. It still doesnt detract from what I said no matter what experience you may have done.

And this is why you will find it hard for the HR numbers. We used to just give out main reception number because of the hassle the staff would get.

I couldn't think of anything worse, mister roll eyes.

First and foremost H R are there to deal with my staffs issues and such like and that always comes first. Recruitment second. And most of the time our H R only just get the applications in and its us that have to sift them when we can.

Try not to be impatient as I would dread to think how you would be if you ever got to work on the railway

Yes, invariably HR will just pass the applications on to the relevant manager to sort out. I've sifted through lists and weeded out those I don't want......

Those who are impatient on the railway invariably get fobbed off or ignored!
What used to happen was that their letter kept on being put to the bottom of the pile.....
Now their emails get put in a different folder.......

"Hurry up a wait" is the opinion I'm forming.

Which area of the industry do you manage then?

Relevant if you're commenting on an area you have no idea about.....

Well given that I have commented on this thread about what HR should be doing first and foremost then I should think I do know what I am on about thanks.
