White platform face data panels?

Hope the above hints at what I'm enquiring about, about A4 size, approx. every 10 meters or so, presumably showing track/platform edge clearances etc., with what looks like an adjustable red slider on the right.

Don't know what they're called, and would like to learn about their function.

I'd be grateful for enlightenment, or a source of information.

Search for 'datum' in the box at the top of the forum. Read one of the 384 threads on the matter. But basically they are for recording measurements about the track.

It's not really the site search that is the problem, it's people not knowing the name of the datum plates which makes the answer to the question impossible to search for. I don't think anybody can reasonably expect people to know the name for them, it's certainly a jargony term so getting the same question on an almost monthly basis is inevitable. There could be a sticky thread about them of course but even then what do you put in the title to ensure people who have the question click on the sticky?
