New £1 coin design

I regularly use a vending machine which hasn't been updated for this change and only takes old 10p/5p coins, and in my experience PERTIS machines never accept these either

We get people wanting to swap new 10ps for old because the library photocopier doesn't like them and I understand a lot of Shopping Centre car park machines are yet to be updated.

But this isn't the Treasury's fault. This is industry being tight.

Yeah especially given the new 10p coins came out 20 years ago!

One thing I would like to question (and forgive me if I'm missing something here), is the mention of this new coin being "more resilient" to forgery.
Now I'm sure that it will be.....for a couple of months, until the forgers work out how to make them.
I seem to remember similar claims being made about the Adam Smith £20 note, however within a couple of weeks of it going into circulation I was handed a duff one.
I know that no coin/note will ever be forger proof, but what are the features that make it "more resilient"?

Firstly it is made from two different colour metals (like the £2 coin), which complicates matters for the forgers. But the main thing is that it will feature the Royal Mint's new Integrated Secure Identification System (iSIS).

another issue to bear in mind...a few days ago I was given £3 in change. When I used these three £1 coins at a local shop one was rejected because in fact it was a Euro. The new £1 coin should avoid this

Yes, that has happened to me. I like the sound of this new £ 1.00.

I remember using the old 3d coin very well and the tanner (6d) too, and to be given half a crown felt like you were getting a fortune.

Although I was not much good at maths at school, I never had a problem working out my pocket money in proper LSD.
