Battlefield Line - March

I will be in Hinckley next month. Is the Battlefield Line worth a visit? Their timetable does not seem to have been put up yet but there are hints at some services in March.

That was an interesting experience. One of the smaller and might we say a bit impoverished railways that I have visited. The station at Shackerstone is good with a nice tearoom. I missed a sign on the way and ended up at Market Bosworth station instead of Shackerstone. The original station is in the hands of some car repair company and the railway operates from a shack on the down platform. At Shenton station you can walk to the canal along the trackbed and continue along the towpath, cross over and go to the battle of Bosworth visitor centre. Overall a nice day out.
Worst thing was the sad condition of 45015 left rotting in a siding and some other stock neglected along the track. But they just won't have the money or volunteers to do anything about it I expect.

I believe the owner/s of the 45 have been asked to leave but have nowhere to go. I enjoyed my trip on the line, friendly volunteers and nice buffet car.

Has there been any recent examples of such a matter as you state on other preservation railways and what was the eventual outcome ?

I don't know of any but I'm sure there have been. I've found this on another forum, albeit from a while ago.

"I will not, at this stage, be going into detail of the discussions between the railway and Mr Dickinson other than to say that the railway has had extensive discussions with Mr Dickinson to try and resolve the matter in hand (the payment of monies due to the railway, and the removal, through scrapping, of 45015). Dispite many offers and compromises being put by the railway Mr Dickinson has not agreed to any particular course of action as yet.

Legal advice has been taken and is being followed.

Mr Dickinson has been made fully aware of the consequences of the various routes open to us.

Mr Dickinson did not take the railway to court, he counter sued and lost. We have judgement against Mr Dickinson. The court ruling (which is public) made it clear that the failure to restore 45015 was nothing to do with the railway.

Mr Dickinson has a deadline by which the dispute must be resolved. It is up to him to make his decision. That dealine will soon be reached.

The railway has agreed to appoint and work with a third party arbiter to arrange disposal. Such a 3rd party was appointed.

The railway will make no further comment on the position other than to correct misinformation damaging to the railway.
