Greater Anglia Sprinter operated Footex

Yesterday 23/02/014 Greater Anglia operated two Footex trains for the Tottenham vs Norwich game as Carrow Road, formed of a 5 car Sprinter in the afternoon and a 6 car Sprinter after the game.

1228 Cambridge to Norwich formed of:
156419 front + 153306 middle + 156412 rear


evening Norwich to Cambridge formed of:
153322 front + 156418 + 153306 + 156419 rear

I was wondering what they were using- I think there was also a second one before the match?
These were laid on because of engineering work on the GEML, and ran fast from Ely to Norwich (and return).

As far as I can tell, the following extra trains ran:

2G65 0750 Norwich to Ely (timed for a 170, runs to form 1G96)
1G96 1130 Cambridge to Norwich (timed for a 170)
1G98 1228 Cambridge to Norwich (timed for a 153/156)
1G99 1835 Norwich to Cambridge (timed for a 153/156)

Any idea which 170s operated 1G96?

When the Norwich line is blockaded, especially on a Sunday when there's less services on the Lea Valley line, has there ever been consideration to operating through (dragged) services via Cambridge? Could the 90s power the trains at least to Cambridge if they did?

Still need buses to Colchester, Ipswich, Diss etc dependant on the location of the blockade.

Nothing stops pax going via Cambridge on a 170/379 - walk up is cheaper too if you split at Cambridge! I do

A few years back the Sunday Norwich - Cambridge service was retimed so it connected better at Cambridge with the Liverpool St service, which was replatformed to platform 4 to provide a cross platform connection. This gives an hourly service which is deemed sufficient without adding the cost of running an odd hauled train via Cambridge. In addition the Lea Valley or the Southbury route could be blocked on any Sunday so pathing may not be so simple. Then there is the cost of training and retaining drivers and conductors route knowledge. Consideration was given, and rejected.
