Last Saturday when stopped at Clapham, I spotted what looked like an old 423 in the sidings in between the SWT triangle at Clapham, sorry for the slightly rubbish picture.

Any idea what an old gentlemen of a train is doing at Clapham?

I believe this is 3417, or Gordon Pettit. It's owned by the Bluebell Railway but is at Clapham Yard on number 8 road with a broken shoe (still, I think). Looks like the unit isn't moving for sometime, either.

How have I not noticed this, I pass there on the train a few times a week! In fact I did so today. Is it in those sidings just before CLJ on the right when going in the Up direction? Though I didn't have much of a chance today as by then the guard had moved me and everyone else from the declassified First Class section (and my window seat) and had to take an aisle seat on a bench of three :(

Yes, the yard is on the right just before the station in the up direction, sort of sandwiched between the SWT and SN sides of the station.

have they moved it?

I always thought it was between the SWT Windsor lines and the SWT mainlines!

I've just re-read what I wrote, oops. Nope, no major engineering works that I've missed. ;)

I did of course mean between SWT Windsor lines and SWT mainlines.

I saw that Saturday too.....don't worry about the quality of the picture - to get one in the sun without lumps of tree flying about was a superb achievement I'd say!!!!!

Gordon is looked after by some Wimbledon depot staff, and a damn good job they do!

Of course the irony of the Wimbledon depot mascot being an ex Fratton unit isnt lost on us sarcastic staff members either! ;)
