South West Medical

Hi all,

I know there are a few medical posts on here but having trawled through them I couldn't see anything directly related to South West. I have my medical next week and am wondering what the specifics are for south west? also how quickly do you hear if you have passed? I will literally have a 24 hour slot post medical to hand my notice in with my current employer in order to work my notice to start on the date they have given me for training.

Hi Sara,

I do not know what the SWTs policy or timeframe is. I am not sure if mentioning the tight deadline will help but certainly in my case (with Southern) I was told I would hear from HR 2-3 days after my medical. It took me to call them 10 days after my medical (as I was convinced they would call me eventually!) to find out everything was fine and my contract was in the post. hock:

It normally takes at least a couple of days sometimes a week until you get the results. Occupational Health who do our medicals will take a urine sample and test it for the presence of drugs. They will also do a test for your hearing and sight (including a colour blindness test). It's all pretty routine stuff, but it's the drug test that you always end up having to wait for as the samples need to be sent off for analysis. Best to ask whoever does your medical how long it takes and explain your situation.

Sara, pretty much as Monty describes it. I had my medical on a Thursday and the drug results were through the following Wednesday. Other than the drugs test the OHT nurse tells you the results there and then. Like Monty says just tell them your situation. Also let recruitment know. Nothing to worry about. I was on prescription medication. You just need to remember to tell the nurse what you're taking when you do the test. Good luck with everything
