SWT 159s in unusual places

How exactly is the ZF proving a liability? My sources say it is working fine, what do you know that SWT doesn't?

It's not. The second vehicle is having a ZF box fitted.

When it failed and caused a delay. It was NOTHING to do with the transmission. It could have happened to any 15x

When was the last time a SWT diesel made it along the Portsmouth direct both in service and ECS? Certainly not regular but I can imagine it has happened at some stage or another.

Not sure about in service but the ECS moves for the SWT 159 tours have all run from Fratton-Waterloo via the Portsmouth Direct. Last year on one Sunday 159s were diverted from Woking to Guildford too because of engineering works, but they didn't go any further than Guildford.

Of course, I remember now, there were several ECS moves up the direct line last spring and summer while Fratton drivers were road learning the Reading route.

This probably seems unrelated, but I was up in Scotland around Dec. 14th last year when I boarded a 158 to Dunblane, and all the fire escape stickers were identical to thise used on SWT's sprinter fleet (they even carried SWT branding!) Did ScotRail take some of SWT's 158s, either directly or indirectly?

Probably one of 158786 and 158789 which worked for South West Trains for a while before the extra 159s arrived.

Yes, the two original SWT 158s, 786 and 789, transferred to ScotRail.

No idea if it's of interest to anyone but 159106 seemed to be running as a two car unit yesterday evening.

Was on the SWT unit that FGW currently use again twice on Saturday - First journey was working Southampton Central - Great Malvern and the second was working Great Malvern (I assume) to Westbury. It was quite full on the first journey and the guard reminded people they can go in first class and when someone asked why this train had first class, she said because it is one of the London trains.

Always a nice surprise when this shows up instead of a 150!

I think I passed that one coming back from Hereford, would have been inbetween Worcester & Malvern Link, around 16:20

They still should be seen on a number of weekday Basingstoke - Portsmouth peak extras, but they might not be running due to the current problems on the Botley line.
