Big sting at Herne Hill with a dog!! Not impressed as the dog decided to single me out by jumping up to my chest. I'm not a fan of dogs so the experience wasn't that great. After enquiries about the need to be checking for drugs while doing a ticket sting I was informed that it was because people with drugs cause trouble. I'm not condoning illegal behaviour but I would wager that drink is a cause of trouble not your average stoner.

They usually do it when they have specific intelligence about problematic drug use/selling etc.

Experts would beg to differ....

"Some research studies have found that a lot of acquisitive crime (stealing) is committed by dependent users of heroin and crack cocaine trying to pay for their drugs. Some show a high proportion of people arrested for a range of offences testing positive for drug use. It has been suggested that one third to over a half of all acquisitive crime is related to illegal drug use."

Experts also know that a stoner isn't someone who uses heroin or crack cocaine, it's someone who uses marijuana, which is much less linked to crime than to excessive consumtion of pizza and kit kats...

There's probably a greater correlation between the consumption of Greggs pasties and crime than there is between the smoking of marijuana and crime...

The difference is that drugs are illegal and alcohol isnt - simple as that.

The Met/BTP regularly carry out operations in stations in the London area.

But the point is, I don't think the poster wants a dog jumping up onto his chest!

I certainly wouldn't and if it did I may react rather badly, been bitten too many times you see. Dog, third rail, fizz bang, arrest for breach of the peace!

Sniffer dogs are usually trained to give a secret signal to their handler rather than jumping up or barking. Then the potential offender doesn't know they've been identified and can be taken to one side and searched rather than being alerted and scarpering.

Would I be right in thinking that it was a security neanderthal with the dog rather than a police person? More interested in throwing his muscle around than conducting a legal operation. Did the dog cause any damage or dirt mark on your clothing? Get a claim in.
