Cheltenham Spa to Sheffield, 13th Jan

Hi all,

Want to get from Cheltenham to Sheffield on Monday 13th arriving any time before 5pm, returning on the 15th at any time.

I have a YP Railcard.

There don't seem to be any advance singles apart from a couple of £22 fares which aren't much use with the off peak return being 48 quid giving far more flexibility.

Anyone got any ideas on splits etc to try and get the fare down?

Splitting Advances at Birmingham NS and Derby yields sub-£16 itineraries in each direction - just make sure you get back-to-back tickets for the same train! You can book them all in one transaction on a site like East Coast.

Further to your post - how can you buy the multiple journeys in one transaction? Tried the 'save for later' function but it only allows me to buy one at a time.

Before you make your payment, there should be an option to "Add Another Ticket" (or something similar) towards the bottom of the page.

Don't use save for later, just keep clicking through and eventually at the bottom you will get a "book another journey" button.

Booked journeys for 15 quid each and a change at Derby each way including a journey in 1st class so thanks for the advice.

I know this has been discussed before but what happens if one train is heavily delayed meaning I miss the next? Does it just get treated as a missed connection so the ticket will be endorsed?

A change at Derby? You shouldnt need to change, it should be the same train throughout? Have you booked it so you actually get off and then get on the following train?

If it is all on the one ticket or you have allowed sufficient connecting time between the trains, then you can travel on the next train of the same TOC at no extra fee. It is not mandatory to have your ticket endorsed but it can helpful to avoid unnecessary hassle.

Yeah made an actual change to an EMT service each way - the Nottingham service times worked better connecting to/from it at Derby.

Staying on the same train through Birmingham each way though.

Wherever possible use the East Coast web site for your bookings. Sign up to their rewards scheme. If the total value of your booking for more than one transaction is more than £22, you qualify for rewards points.
