Bristol Temple Meads to Cheltenham Spa

Hi all,

Later this year I will be commuting from Bristol Temple Meads (or perhaps Clifton Down/Redland/Montpelier) to Cheltenham Spa for 2-3 months.

Will be travelling every weekday with the morning trip being a peak journey. Would like to stick to the fast XC services only.
I have a 16-25 railcard.

The cheapest flexible ticket I can see is the anytime day return which will cost me the £12.00 minimum fare. This is very reasonable but I'm just wondering if any of you clever people can come up with anything better?

If you can wait for the 08.30 departure (Cheltenham a. 09.10) then it is £8.80 D/R without any Railcard Discount.

I don't think the flexible Anytime Day Return can be beaten on a weekly basis. Five return trips a week is £60 with the 16-25 Railcard, versus £67.20 for a weekly Season Ticket.

Another question re. Plusbus as I may need to use the bus there/back on the Bristol side.

Can I buy the anytime day return and a plusbus ticket the day before, so I can use it on the way to the station in the morning?

Ask a ticket office, or for that matter the guard on your train in the evening who will be glad of the commission.

Word of advice. If you are going to start your journey at Clifton/Redland then don't buy your through ticket to Cheltenham from there.

Buy a £1.50 single or £2 return to Temple Meads and your £12 anytime return from Temple Meads to Cheltenham as it is cheaper than a Clifton/Redland to Cheltenham anytime return.

That's not correct. They both cost £12 due to the railcard minimum fare.
