"Light railway plan for Stortford?"

"A BISHOP'S Stortford resident has sketched out a radical solution to the town's growing traffic problems - build a light railway!

"At an environmental committee meeting on Monday, town councillors praised Mark Ranger's proposals for a 12km (7.5-mile) looped track connecting the town centre with its outlying residential areas.

"Mr Ranger, who has lived and worked in Bishop's Stortford for more than 30 years, told members that he hoped to rejuvenate the town and put it firmly on the map. He wants the venture, which is still at an embryonic stage, to be owned and run by the community on a non-profit basis. . . "

An interesting idea, but it doesn't look as though much is happening.

The link appears to be to a 2009 newspaper article and the latest news on the website is from 2011...

That's weird. When I first checked back it was 2009, but now the article is clearly dated 08:00 Saturday 07 December 2013 so maybe a typo slipped through or it was a bodged cut and paste from the paper's previous article on the subject! All the comments are very recent. In one the promoter claims to be working hard on updating the website.

But he's working hard on a mac... (as it says at the bottom)

All he has is some black lines on a google map, and an idealistic mind...

I can't even see a business case on there!

There's two stories. Your link in the first post goes to the 2009 article. But on the right, there's a link to this more recent story

The picture in the first article, of a Parry people Mover, reveals one of the sources- it was based on a system that Parry were promoting at the time for "cheaply" laying tramways in roads, using PPM-type vehicles.

"A similar system already operates successfully in Stourbridge in the West Midlands" not quite the same! Hopefully it travels faster than the PPM and without the annoying noises when riding it :P
