They refer to a 'male priest' but show a picture of a religious person with a dog collar in a purple shirt. That is known as a bishop!

Faith in humanity restored: Biker crashes on roundabout, lovely people come to help him

Last month Connor Nichols from Romford was riding through Essex on his way home from paintballing when he came off his motorbike while navigating a roundabout.

Bar one car most others stopped, and soon Mr Nichols was surrounded by concerned drivers who had seen him fall off.
A male priest, a woman, and two further men came to his assistance with the female telling the rider ‘I don’t want to leave you’ before helping the man to move his bike to the side of the road.

Of course Christianity has no "priests" because Christ is the mediator, compared to Judaism or other religions, were people believe they access God through a priest.

I was happy that when my friend came off his bike, someone stopped to see if he was al-right (as well as me). I think, in UK at least, most people will stop if no one has stopped yet.

I've just gone to have a look at my purple shirt. It doesn't have a dog-collar attached, therefore, I am not a Bishop.

(Really, what have clothes got to do with anything that matters?)

I agree, though I find one odd exception to that generalisation, and that is when one of the parties is wearing a uniform - whether it is a government, commercial or faith uniform, that doesn't seem to be significant, but sometimes times, the clothes do seem to act as a barrier to compassion.

Catholics refer to having priests (which have to be male) while Anglicans usually refer to vicars and in free churches they have ministers.

Isn't a bishop a priest?

My understanding is not. However, someone who sits above a bishop in the church's hierarchy is still seen as a bishop e.g. the Pope is the Bishop of Rome but also has extra responsibilities.

I may well be totally wrong, but I recall that the three principal demarcations of Anglican clergy are bishops, priests and deacons. There are, of course, archbishops and archdeacons but no archpriests! At ordinations, candidates are ordained as deacons (ie the first step, when they can do certain rites but not consecration) then priest (can consecrate the bread and wine).

On checking that is correct due to the Anglican church being a reformed Catholic church. However, you would usually refer to the resident Anglican priest as a 'Vicar' rather than a priest, while in the Catholic church you would refer to them as 'Parish Priest.'

There are, of course, archbishops and archdeacons but no archpriests!

You have 'Vicar General' and 'Provost' as senior positions instead.

There's only one "Provost" I'm interested in and that's "The Lord Provost" aka 47709 ;)

Carry on everyone, I'll get my coat and scarper...

It would be bigger news if Associated Comics managed to publish one of their rags without making an error
