Christmas Day Coaches from National Express

National Express are runnning coaches on Christmas Day this year - though with surprisingly little notice.

Looks like just a handful of journeys on 7 routes (1 Leeds - London, 2 London - Leeds, 4 London Gatwick, 7 back no afternoon servive).

Apart from the Gatwick service everything calls at Heathrow.

Anyone know how the Megabus services a few years ago fared? I don't think they repeated them.

Megabus are running them this year.

I got an email today from 'Sophie' at NX today about it, but I also got one back on 27 October, which had a caption saying "We're running services on Christmas Day"

Noticed this yesterday. There seems to be 2 journeys from Liverpool- London calling at Manchester, Birmingham, Coventry and Heathrow. They are charging premium fares it was £43 single from Liverpool to London.

Well I guess the drivers and other related staff will all be paid more for the day, which will be reflected in the fares.

less than double time for HCAs etc , time and 60% for Health Professionals other than ambulance staff and doctors

ambulance staff will get their normal USH banding and same for Doctors

The loadings will be interesting, I can't see many people using the services but at the same time if you want to visit family without a car it could come in handy. Early flights on boxing day perhaps?

Oh, I don't know. Leeds - London usually has about 16 NX coaches a day each way and another few to Heathrow, often with duplicates provided on some of them.

Having 1 one way and 2 the other on a day when there's no trains either I wouldn't be surpised if they were quite busy.

National Express have run on Boxing Day for years (as long as I can remember) with a near full service. Generally normal service with a later start. There are few trains on Boxing Day too so I would expect these coaches to be well patronised as well.

Megabus are running a reduced service on New Year's Day in Scotland with premium fares e.g. £35 Edinburgh to Aberdeen, when the usual fare is more like £13, but there are no trains in Scotland on that day.

There's a good many UK residents who don't celebrate Christmas and might welcome some services being run on Christmas Day - after all, much of Europe runs services so why shouldn't the UK ?

First Cymru have annouced that Greyhound service 100 Swansea - Bristol Airport via Cardiff and the Trawscymru T9 to Cardiff Airport will operate from around 6am on boxing and new years day.

Also surprising is that the Park & Ride services in Swansea will operate on boxing day this year with services starting after 8am although no other bus services are annouced as operating as yet.

Cardiff Bus are supposed to be operating limited services on boxing day and new years day mostly those to Ely, Cardiff Bay, St Mellons & Radyr

Megabus services on Christmas day are very well used as I observed once
