Signals in the immediate station area of Grimsby Town have acquired new signal numbers and plates during this last week.
They are blue with I believe the code GMB then a signal number different to the ones that are already fitted with the P prefix(Pasture Street)
Anybody know if this is part of an area wide signal renumbering.
The signal on the approach to Littlefield Lane on the UP track does NOT have additional plate.

Educated guesswork - but is it anything to do with GSM-R registration?

I was not sure if I had remembered the GMB code correctly but now you have quoted GSM-R that looks very familiar so you are almost certainly correct.

That'd make sense then - I've seen a few, providing an alias (as opposed to using the signal number?) for use when registering on the system. That'd explain why only certain signals had the plates too (those where a train might need to register on GSM-R, after reversing or changing headcode) - it was the GMB that made me doubt myself! Perhaps one of the driver chaps on here will be able to enlighten us further :) .

The signs at Grimsby Town (and Cleethorpes) show GSMR, then the code 998. Have put up recently.
Although it is strange that Platform 1 at Cleethorpes is yet to gain these signs.
