2 people hit by trains in 2 days

Greater Anglia suffered from 2 seperate incidents.

Trains between Norwich and London are currently disrupted after a person was hit by a train in Maryland.


The incident is believed to have happened at about 8pm.


Greater Anglia said services between London Liverpool Street and Braintree, Southend Victoria and Shenfield were also disrupted.


Network Rail said: “A person has been hit by a train at Maryland causing delays up to 60 minutes between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield. Trains are not calling at Maryland, Forest Gate and Manor Park stations.


“Passengers may use First Capital Connect, London Underground, c2c and London bus route 86 from Stratford on any reasonable routes.”

A woman has escaped with a minor head injury after being hit by a train at Chadwell Heath station.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) was called to reports of a woman under a train at 6.15pm today.


An ambulance crew, the London air ambulance medical team in a car, and a duty officer were all sent to the scene in Station Road.

Tragic though such things are, I would rather have an ungated station with only retail staff (ticket sellers) than none at all; unfortunately that's often the alternative if there aren't the resources to go around. It's not always practical to have gold-plated staffing levels, and it seems to work well up north, that's the situation at my local station and as far as I'm concerned, it's safe...

Two of the saddest ones I heard about personally ( at the time I was working for Network Rail ) both occured at Manchester Piccadilly. One occured on platform 14 , the other in the ladies toilets.

There was two jumpers in front of the same Southern services over two days a few years ago. Not the same station but next to each other.

Suicide attempts are rather common these days which is tragic for everyone as everyone suffers.

On average 210 people per year commit suicide on the railways with many other accidents this averages not short of one a day so therefore there will be peaks and troughs, I remember many fatalities on the Southern region in 2001 I think it was 10 in 3 days all around New Year.

There are plenty of resources to go around - GA suburban services make a fortune to recycle into the wider franchise and the DFT.

I'm sure it's this time of year. I have either been affected by, or at least heard about (in the southeast) at least 10-15 people being hit by trains in November alone.

When I worked on the railway it was noticeable that there is a considerable increase in suicides around the time of the full moon, which I believe occured a couple of days ago. One could almost be certain that there would be one or more on the day of the full moon.
It is not for nothing that changes in behaviour at the time of a full moon led to people thus affected being classed as 'lunatics' or 'moon-struck'. Luna refers to the moon.
