CrossCountry route knowledge/odd routing

There seem to be several examples of CrossCountry services going a roundabout way to reach their destination, I assume most being for route knowledge purposes.

There are scheduled XC services via Alsager, Lichfield, Stourbridge, Perry Barr.

Are there any more? Are they all route knowledge, or are any of them actually parliamentaries?

Birmingham New Street - International via Perry Barr, services via the Dearne Valley line and Beighton Junction - Tapton Junction. I think one used to go via the Edinburgh Suburban line as well.

There used to be one from Bristol to Taunton via Westbury, but I believe there is now an ECS doing it instead. Probably just as well, it's a long diversion! Also the 2146 Reading to Birmingham reverses at Foxhall Jn to go via the west curve at Didcot.

There is a morning ECS from Eastleigh to Southampton which runs via Chandlers Ford to Romsey, reverses, thence via Redbridge to Southampton. There used to be a scheduled service at night running between Basingstoke and Southampton via the Lavernock Curves at Salisbury.

The ECS moves for the Guildford trains run that way to/from Eastleigh, but there aren't any passenger services apart from when there are diversions.

Before the electrification works started, on Monday and Tuesday only, the first Manchester-Bournemouth and last Birmingham-Manchester used to be routed via Chat Moss and Warrington BQ

21:05x Glasgow Central. Doesnt always run that way on a Friday odly. I also think the voyager that works Plymouth>Aberdeen>Edinburgh runs via Thornton and Dunfermline on its way back to Edinburgh most weeknights too.↲

I don't think there are any services that go that way at present, from looking at Realtime Trains.

Likewise the 17.40 Reading to Newcastle...after Sheffield it appears to run from Holmes Junction/Rotherham Central, Aldwark/Thrybergh J to Mexborough East ie the old XC route avoiding the new Swinton...all at about 25mph.
I assumed it was a one-off for engineering work, but was a Friday.

There are two per week via Westbury, one passenger service and one ECS.

Off the top of my head, some of the other odd routings I have had in the last year or so on XC include Leeds to Sheffield via Wakefield Westgate, Wakefield Kirkgate and Barnsley, Leeds to Chesterfield via Rotherham Masborough, Treeton Jn and Barrow Hill, Coleshill to Leicester via Burton and Castle Donington, Birmingham to Stafford via Tame Bridge Parkway and via/avoiding Wolves - all on booked diversions.

I had it running via Shotts one evening earlier this year.

Diversions only I believe. No booked service atm.

There is one return journey on Saturdays that goes via Castleford.

Yes. 1E68 is the only one booked via Tinsley.

the XCs via shots are megga rare. There was one for a while which went that way towards Glasgow but not in other direction. That said, they should do it more as shots is quicker sometimes on that 21:05 x Glasgow as at the time that reaches Carstairs theres quite a bit happening. in summer that would be a bashers delight if up on say an ALR - Motherwell then via shots and the sub all in one go and would save having to do the stoppers!

Until 2008 a couple of XCs used to go Ferryhill-Norton rather than down the ECML, at least according to PSUL. Never did it so don't know if it was a reliable diversion.

It didn't actually go via Motherwell when I used it (24th August I think). It went direct Bellshill - Mossend West - Mossend East - Holytown - Carfin, and neither did it go around the Edinburgh Suburban.
