Passed through Crewe today from south on the WCML and onto the Chester line.

Passing what I'd always assumed was CE at the south east of Crewe I saw 86632 coming onto the main line and a 90 (presumably 050) right at the back out towards the stoke line. This depot has always looked sparsely populated.

92002 was stabled round the back by platform 11.

Then, probably about a mile, going round towards Chester to the south of these lines is yet another shed/works/yard that I never knew existed! In the sidings are about half a dozen or so stored class 90s including 90017. I was so taken aback by seeing them that I was totally unprepared and can't remember what else was there but all very visible from the Chester line. Unfortunately it was dark on the way back buy does anyone know what this depot is and what the 90s are that are dumped there please?

That's Crewe EMD (or Crewe Electric in old money!)

Looks like you need to invest in a rail atlas...;)

You're probably right! So is the depot in south east Crewe the carriage sidings then?

Yes, it is

90s at CE are, 90017/022/023/025/027/030-034/037/038/040. Most will be outside the depot, not sure not sure which ones you will have seen as not all are visible from the Chester line, but 90034 would probably be inside depot as that is on repair.

That's Crewe LNWR (now an Arriva operation, was the Pete Waterman business).
It services Voyagers for VT, 350s for LM and all sorts of other micro-fleets.
Riviera Trains stock is also based there.
The new TP 350/4 is being tested from there.

90034 being reinstated for an interesting hire contract, apparently. Going blue to haul red & grey coaches...
