I love our mk3s they are like a proper train ,the 321 are like a metro train. I do wish they would replace the lights and celing panels. Had a ride on an east coast HST it was like a different train light and airy feel. our lights are often different colours some tubes white some pinkish shade
if we had British rail rather than Dutch rail we could have a standard fleet

That's irrelevant, if the NXEA actually invested in their fleet then it would be more standard than it is now

I understand from RAIL there are delays with the class 170 and mk3 refurbishment due to a company going bust

The fleet manager certainly wants new high backed seating and power sockets so it looks like the mk3s are here to stay.

The 170s will now be treated next year so looks like they will recieve a repaint

This is guided by Porterbrook rather than Greater Anglia. Most refurbishments seem to be carried out by the relevant leasing company

Refurbishments are always carried out by a combination of the leasing company and TOC. Where the franchise renewal date is in the short term, this will mean the ROSCO leading and specifying more. Where the franchise renewal is further down the line, the TOC will put more cash up front and be more detailed in specification (see SWT, Chiltern etc). Presumably with a ROSCO led refurbishment they'll factor the cost into future leasing charges.

That sound promising, it will be great to see the 170s get repainted and the Mark 3s get a life extension overhaul. Does anyone have any online sources?

The fleet manager also mentioned automatic doors and work which would result in a twenty year life extension on the mk3s but admitted it unlikely all would recieve the go ahead

Presumably porterbrook did not get on well with nxea

Biggest stumbling block will be getting the DfT to agree to the work... if they (ROSCO and TOC) get a major refurb/rebuild of the mk3s authorised, it will only be if the DfT decides to retain the Mk3 for GEML use rather than use displaced mk4s once the IEP things enter service, or new Class 444 style units...

Otherwise it will be a mechanical overhaul and maybe a deep clean and new seat covers to carry them through till the mk4s can enter service

Think it's just going to be a refresh to take them through the next 6 years. Seat covers, CET, re-paint & possibly plug sockets. Not much more.

I'm not sure NXEA got on well with anyone :P

It's good to hear that the 170s are getting repainted, 170270 especially.

New seat covers would be nice, hopefully they are the same pattern as the 379s ad that would make the Mark 3s feel like Chiltern's a little. The current NXEA seat covers look incredibly dated and could do with being replaced. Is it definite the seat covers are getting replaced?

Don't worry, it won't be in traffic for a while due to a mechanical failure...

As such 156407 has not gone off yet.

Oh dear, what has happened to it? :P

That's a shame, would have liked to ride the latest refurbished 156

It's the best we have had in a long time though, it will be lovely to get rid of the horrible interior we have at the moment, I know some people love the old style trains however I think that they are terrible, the inside of them has also become particularly shabby of late. So pleased that this refresh is going ahead :D

Any idea where I can find more photos of RFM 10229 in the red livery?

I'm working on a reskin for TS and have a few unsure bits.

I think the red line is now thicker on the RFM at back of Crown Point.

It looks like it is now extended to be level with the top of the doors. Looks very nice now. Can't wait to see what a fully repainted set complete with 90 and DVT looks like. Going by the drawings appearing on various bits of paper it'll be nice.

Is TSO 12139 still in 'Polar Bear' livery and in service?

Yes it is, I saw it at Stowmarket on Monday :) Also concerning this coach, it has had new seat covers in the old NXEA "chicken leg" moquette on all seat backs and most seat bases (why all seats weren't done completely, I don't know. Probably cost-cutting or a shortage of material), replacing the vast majority of the old VT seats. This heavily implies that the current weird interior decor will be retained until high-backed seats and power doors are fitted or the coaches are replaced.

GA desperately need extra stock from somewhere, both DMU and loco hauled as the reliability of the service is now getting close to the dark days of NXEA ! Abellio might regret branding into this TOC if things do not improve soon !

Silly idea--refurb 306 017 and run it between colchester and Walton that would free up a 321.. and make me happy to see my favorite train running past my back garden

RFM 10229's Greater Anglia livery has been revised with the addition of a grey band at solebar level and a thicker line showing 1st Class:
10229

It is actually starting to look vaguely like a proper livery... Could do with something between the windows and the grey band though.

As an aside, any news on the refurbishment of the Mark 3 fleet? Seems to have gone very quiet on that front.

I like that now, pop a GA logo in the middle and it'll be pretty smart!

Looking forward to seeing 90005 released.
