Is anyone else still waiting to hear back for a DM interview? Looking at the original advert the interviews were running up to 8/11 which isnt far away!

might be a stupid question, but can anyone with experience of the DBschenker process tell me if you need to currently live within commuting distance of listed depots or whether they accept people who are willing to relocate ????

Ah, so there were people who were successful previously, who applied for Toton...:roll:
As for your question...if your through to the DM interview stage for a position at Toton, it might annoy them slightly. However, I have no idea, suppose it depends on where your are located and if they have others who could fill the spots at Toton.

Well this is interesting. Ive never seen a company charge for the assesment process, unless the applicant was taking the test privately, off their own back.
That part must only have been added recently, it wasn't on the advert when I first looked at it.

Reading this, I have a feeling that many companies might do this in the future too.
On the bright side, it will weed out the people who aren't totally dedicated to becoming a train driver, so the number of applicants may be significantly reduced.
On the other hand, it will probably cause problems for people who would make great drivers, but can't afford the initial cost of the assessments.
I wonder if this may replace the 'two strikes and your out' system.

I find it absolutely absurd that they'd make applicants pay for their own assessments.
That declaration wasn't included in the original Job Advertisement that was posted on Monday 04/11/13 so I'm they'll waiver the fee for applicants who applied before that was added!
I know several people who applied and none of them were aware of the charges as that particular declaration was not included in the original job post. I do hope it's not a money making exercise whereby they get as many applicants through the door paying £140. Disgraceful

Totally agree with everything posted here. It sets a nasty president.
One of the ongoing costs of a company is recruitment, to pass this on to the applicants is poor. Their sorting process should be good enough to sift out the really poor applicants, the rest should be their cost to put through assessment centres.
Just my thoughts on it.

...this is exactly what I thought when I just read it too - if prospective drivers are now going to be forced to pay for their assessment then the two strikes system should be removed and it is the applicants risk on whether they want to continue to fork out £140 a shot!
...and the advert didn't say this the other day so it has only been added in the last 24 hours!

Also they could take the £140 off every candidate, and as the advert states you only receive this amount back if offered the job, also agree with previous comments that it will weed out a lot of time wasters.

Hi guys, new to the forum!
Just applied for this job myself and noticed they have just recently added the £140 admin fee. I saw it as a positive and like someone before me mentioned it will hopefully weed out more people.
Will let you guys know how my application goes, as for then, I shall be lurking the forums!

Yes they do but they are changing to the new assessment in the new year so your pass may not be applicable with this vacancy if it is by the old assessment.

£140 per candidate is just a huge money making exercise. I don't know how many people they get applying for the trainee roles but if its anything like first it could be as high as 5000!
Thats £700,00! I realise at the moment that you have to pass the paper shift but if they are going to charge £140 per person for the assessment i really don't see them rejecting people on a papaer shift and losing out on £140.
I would think that they would get people to take the assessment and weed out people they didn't think were good for the job by interview, assuming they passed the assessment.

I believe rail companies have to pay to send candidates to the assessments, and at a higher cost than £140, so DB Schenker isn't really making money out of doing this, and they're still footing most of the bill.
They're trying to reduce the cost of paying for so many failing candidates or no-shows by ensuring only serious and dedicated people apply.
If it was a money making exercise, they probably wouldn't have much of a paper sift at the start, and the fee would be far higher.
Ultimately, they want a candidate who they fund to sit the assessment, to actually be successful.
It's an investment for them.

I potentially could fall under this...especially how it will fall right after christmas and just before my car MOT is due
Ah well will have to wait and see what happens.

Fine - I think! Two production managers - basically going through the same questions as the CBI. Did ask 'why do you want to be a driver' but that was about the only extra!
Had done quite a bit of research about the company but didn't get asked anything!
Said i'd hear back in a week or so - nowt yet

No, had my interview last week. I believe Lindsay was away until Monday, but I did hear that it could have been Thurday. I'm going to wait until this afternoon, then bang an email to them.
I thought this was the last week for the medicals, looking at the original advert. I know these are subject to change though, and from speaking to someone who works for them, they are not the quickest at doing stuff. There are only about 3 people working in recruitment.
