hi there,
basically been offered the job as lines person pending a medical with pupa.

basically I've never done drugs and i rarely drink so that isn't a problem.

With the eyesight i understand the good eye has to be 6/9 and the other at least 6/12.
is this with glasses?
i don't wear glasses but I've read somewhere that uncorrected vision should be 3/60 (6/30) in both eyes.

my right eye is top notch but my left eye isn't so much and think it was 6/12 +/-

just worried this could ruin my chances

I wear glasses for distance and couldn't read a number plate at 22m without them but i meet the minimum standards of uncorrected according to my optician!

Edit: and yes the "6/9 and the other at least 6/12" is with glasses!

i see, so i don't wear glasses, so they would measure me as uncorrected? that right?

Corrected is with glasses, uncorrected without.

So yes you are correct.

Any high Street optician can test you to railway standards - they all have the information. Might be worth a quick check before you go to medical?

The up corrected standard is 3/60 which as far as I understand it means being able to read the large (top) letter on the chart from 3 feet away. If you can't do that then you can be registered blind as far as I know.

I would think you would know if you can't read 3/60 but you can get online eye tests by doing a google search. They obviously arnt completely accurate but should give a fair idea.

ive had a go and i think I'm looking into it far too much, don't think my eyes are as bad as i think they are.

As I say, I'm pretty sure you would know if you are at a stage that you could be registered blind. And as long as your vision is correctable with glasses (they can check using glasses with a pin prick cut out) you will be fine. For speed go to an optician yourself and get glasses made up ahead of the medical, but chances are that if you need glasses they will pass you fit with a restriction and HR will make you a second appointment once you have glasses. It will just delay you slightly getting a firm offer of employment.
