And seeing that I really like Voyagers, i don't think that's applicable to me ;)

Good! That makes two of us. :D Voyagers may not be comfortable to travel on, however they have really revolutionised the safety aspect for train travel.

Nope. I'm only early 20s and went into driving Voyagers 2 years ago. Leaving soon though. Was never my ambition, really just 'a job' to give me money to live and have a life of leisure :D

My last day is in December, then im emigrating to Australia! woop ;)

Was that just a general query? Or.... :)

What a stupid ridiculous name for a Virgin Voyager "Vermin" + "Vomit Comets"<<< How very very sad....

I don't see why it's sad, it's just there nicknames like practically everything else on the railways has a nickname(s)

Well it's just pointless. Puts them down aswell, not everyone hates them. So yeah tis sad in my eyes.

Our opinions obviously differ.

I applied to GNER for my work expierience but also turned me down, saying because i live in Aberdeen, all i could have got is cab rides, not bad in my eyes, espiecially in HSTs, but they also said that if i lived down south i could have had real work expierience with one of there station etc etc :(

Virgin, as far as I know have never said yes to workEx. They are very strict about it...But they could have said yes, but it is very rare i've never heard of anyone accepted for W.E with Virgin.

Cabride....Yet again that could have been arranged, however it's not allowed under any circumstances. So would be very strange....But again you just never know.

How long ago did Chaz apply?

It was a couple of years ago I applied, but I got a response within 2 months. The best idea is you apply as soon as your School/College gives you details etc.

I was originally told it would be offices, but the work varies. The whole tour of Piccadilly was quite interesting. And yes, I did have a Cab Ride.

Yeah and I loved it. Went for 2 weeks back in '99. My Dad said then that if he'd been out there when he was younger, then I might have an awful accent and be confused about who to support at Cricket and Rugby......

I liked the general cleanliness and optimism that Sydney, and particularly Darwin had, Alice Springs and Cairns were a bit to touristy in some ways, but thats to e expected.

It's somewhere I plan to work for a year or so soon anyway as part of my career development stuff - either their or NZ.

A couple of people i know who worked on the railway over here, emmigrated and ended up on the railway 'down under', they are full of praise for it, especially the wages.

I applied to GNER for my work expierience but also turned me down, saying because i live in Aberdeen, all i could have got is cab rides

The GNER manager at Kings Cross told me that he couldn't interview me because the station was being evacuated. ("Can't you hear that alarm?!" "No"). Funny how trains were leaving/entering, everyone was going about their business as usual...

Virgin told me that they couldn't accept me basically in case a passenger assaulted me.

Hull trains told me although they operated out of Kings Cross their base was in Hull so it wasn't a faesable solution.

I applied to one railway first and several times after as they are my local TOC, still haven't got a reply.

First Great Western didn't reply to emails/letters. Went down to Paddington one day to enquire about it, was in "casual" clothing, then the manager told me off!! Tunrs out he thought I was there to start work experience, not apply. Anyway, eventually left my details with a nice woman there, and she did send me a letter saying there were no positions there at that time.

Southern and SouthEastern never replied.

Freightliner never repiled.

EWS said that as my closest depot, Stratford, was now closed, I would not be accepted - despite me suggesting Wembley.

London Underground couldn't accept me for safety reasons.

South West Trains. Phone Customer Services. Get put through to Recruitment at Basingstoke - very nice. Then they find out im in London. Get put through to London West recruitment. Don't get a reply.

First Capital Connect said they had no positions to offer.

When I tried this last year,

EWS
Said yes but 1 week wouldn't be enough to do Wembley

Freightliner, Mendip, Fastline...
All said no.

VTWCML and FCC THAMESLINK
Said I should call...

Ahem.... to quote yourself "what harm is it doing to you" and "if it makes them happy leave it be".

So you are happy for people to muck around and swear at trains but not call Virgin Voyagers what they like?

Hmm...!

Strepsils are really crap, there are better remedies out there, such as not lying about your profession.

Do you have any family members or friends or friends of friends in said companies?

I found network rail were very quick off the mark to say i wasn't allowed in signal boxes and thus work experience altogether due to it being too safety critical.

One kick up the backside from my friend and I was straight in, no questions asked!

HR can get it very wrong sometimes, don't give up hope!

What have you asked to do as part of your Work Experience?

I know that LUL do offer WE placements as I had to look after one!
