I applied in March/April. Had an email through about six weeks ago explaining that I am to be invited for stage one assessments once the new tests are in place in October.
In the meantime, I applied for FGW a fortnight after the LM job closed. Have since passed the stage 1 and sat stage 2 (awaiting results but feeling optimistic). At this rate I could have a job offer before I even see a stage 1 with LM!
It's a slow old process this trainee driver lark isnt it?

I had DM a couple of weeks ago, already had valid passes from OPC.

They are still testing certain groups of people. I'm friendly with some members of LM staff and they have their tests next week. Dunno whether LM intend to keep internal and external courses separate but I can't see why they would.
I was in contact with the recruitment department last week, they said the courses for my chosen depot will start early 2014 and they'll get back in touch with me late 2013 to give me some info on everything. My application is classed as active, but no actual offer of employment yet. Hopefully it won't be too long of a wait
The job is never guaranteed until you get the formal offer and contract in writing, have you attended a medical?

That would be very unusual as usually the internals are very helpful to the external candidates if they already have railway experience.
Had the email to book my assesments today goto wait for my work to confirm what days I can have off now and book myself in 
Five mins after getting this long awaited email I got a phone call for another job interview next month,now the dilemma is if I get this other job,will earn 35k basic,bit of OT and bonus will be about 40k plus ill get a fully expensed vehicle,no shift work either,its a job i enjoy doing aswell.
So the rail job may be an extra £75 or so in my pocket every week,but ill have to fund another family car,work shifts and not be sure if ill like the job either.
Will do assesments either way as would like to see if I pass them or not...but may be a tough decision ahead if offered both,as the old saying goes money is not everything,being happy in a job counts for a lot aswell.

To be honest WB, sounds like you would be better suited doing the job you enjoy. I suppose if you can get the time off to attempt the tests you may as well have a crack but you the grass isn't always greener on the other side is it? Keeping in mind the pay while training (22k-ish) as well. If you and your family are not used to shifts then that can be a strain.
It would be cynical to suggest that I would rather you look elsewhere so that I may have a slightly better chance myself :roll: . I'm just a realist. If I was in your position I know what I'd do.

Neither job is guaranteed so hopefully can get time off for the assessment and the interview,seeing how long the recruitment process can take its best to keep all options open,knowing my luck wont get either but its good to at least be given the chance
I've been waiting since August for a start date, no I haven't taken a medical with LM, in the meantime whilst I've been waiting I applied for Freightliner and was offered a position there as a trainee driver. This in a better location for so a no brainer, as it enables me to move from Milton Keynes working for NR back home to Merseyside and work in the Crewe depot.
All I can say to potential candidates and those who are waiting, is be prepared to wait and not hear anything for months and months on end. Good luck also!

Update on myself, I have had a reply from LM recruiting telling me that as I've passed the Group Bourdon and TRP 1&2 then I won't need to sit these, but I will need to take :

Vienna based two hand reaction and perception test
Situational judgement exercise and multi modal interview.
Better than nothing!

12th December! I was going to choose earlier but wanted lots of time for preparing! Please let me know how it goes, seriously best of luck!!
