It seems recently that I have offended some members with comments that may on the surface have appeared "anti-railway staff". I wanted to state that in no way is this the case.

I may disagree with some viewpoints and at times it seems the "debate" has turned more into an "argument".

Whilst I will stand by my beliefs, I am generally happy to admit when I may be wrong on something, once the bigger picture has been pointed out to me. A lot of you work on the railways, so understandably know more than I do.

So I hope all affected members will accept my apology, especially 455 Driver who I've probably 'bitten at' the most.

I hope the mods won't delete this until members have had chance to read it.

A few people on here are often far too quick to jump on people who don't have the 'full picture'. All it needs is a careful explanation when somebody who's not as familiar with the industry is wrong about something.

Every forum has its characters, and this one is no different. However, the expression of one's beliefs, opinions and experiences is often very quickly challenged, and somewhat forthrightly too, on this forum more than on others.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
My biggest concern though is based around "quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
It seems that "no-one" is the answer, and that is wrong.

That is absolutely not the case.

Forum members are free to vote with their feet if they are not happy with the forum staff team. It is not in the interests of the forum staff team to be biased towards any individual or group of individuals, as it would result in very fast decline of this forum.

Every online community have their own set of standards to uphold, and our job is to ensure that these standards are maintained. These standards were agreed with the forum membership through an extensive consultation exercise. We try and make allowances where we can, however we have difficult moderation decisions to make. We appreciate that we cannot please everyone all the time, and we make mistakes occasionally, nevertheless you can rest assured that we try and do the best we can.

Apology accepted, it takes a big man to say sorry.

In your defence -
The trouble with the written word is that all the context is lost, it might mean exactly what you want to say in your head but by the time it is written down and posted it might not come across the way you meant it to and so it appears to be a rather abrupt post.
Hell, I am as guilty of that as the next man.;)

Maybe, 455driver. but I enjoy reading your posts as much as if not more than anybody else's, for the wit and humour that you often used to get your point across.

The trouble is that sometimes the humours isnt 'got', or the humour is often lost when its posted and as I cannot edit my posts there isnt much I can do such as add a smillie or 2. ;)

No truer word has been said, 455driver has to be one of the nicest blokes on the railway you could meet and if you have a genuine interest he would gladly share his wealth of knowledge with you until the cows come home. The Internet is a poor medium when it comes to expressing individual's moods and emotions, it doesn't help if your not particularly articulate with a key board either (something I am guilty of often).

anti-pacer you sound like a genuinely keen and enthusiastic person and would be a credit to and TOC who employ you, I do hope you keep at it and one day your efforts will be rewarded. What I will say is though what happened to likes of 455driver and myself will happen to you, after a certain period of time you will have a somewhat jaded opinion of the industry from the point of view of a member of staff. ;) But users shouldn't confuse our somewhat cantankerous nature on here to who we portray ourselves to the general public at work. I like to think I am a highly professional guard who does his best to be as polite as possible, assist where I can and give information to the best of my ability while working with my driver to get my train safely to its destination. :)

Thought the Admin on here are more than reasonable although in saying that it is a railway site, all be it a massive one.
Would imagine a political or a football site would be harder work.
Pro railway people seem a bit more level headed.

It's fruit.cake, counts as one of your five a day! (Apple pie counts as another, Blueberry Muffen a third)

Many thanks Monty for these words. It is much appreciated.

Got to agree about text being a poor medium to communicate, THE ONLY THING THAT IS GENERALLY UNDERSTOOD THAT CAPSLOCK MEANS SHOUTING. So I always try to wait for any emotional responses to subside before posting.

And hey, if we all had the same view this forum would be boring :D

The postings on this thread and the sentiments expressed in them are a perfect example of why RailUK is a very well thought of website with a good administration and moderation team. Even the last major forum rules update was preceded by a lengthy (and lively) forum discussion forum that forum members were invited to participate in by the forum staff.

For those who have good memories, it is only those forum members such as Striker who constantly went out of his way to be as obnoxious as possible to both the forum staff and some forum members over a considerable period of time who then find themselves to be suffering the ultimate forum sanction.
