Work Experience at Reading

Hi Guys, I am thinking about doing my work experience at Reading but I live in Didcot.

Has anyone done there work experience at Reading, If so, what was it like or does anyone know what I will do while I'm there?

You'll need to enquire first, a lot of train companies do not do work experience. If you are lucky enough to get a placement, you'll not be doing anything safety critical.

When I first started at Didcot, there were a couple of lads on work experience there, manning the help desk, dealing with general enquiries etc. Nothing safety critical. One of them is now on the FGW apprenticeship.
Best bet is to speak to the respective Stn Manager.

I agree that the best person to speak to would be the manager. They are best placed to know if anything can be arranged on the station.

If you live in Didcot I would enquire there as well.

I would try Didcot, You are more likely to get it there than Reading i would have thought.

How can you get decent experience if you don't get to drive a train for at least one or two stations?

Lol, don't give people ideas. We'll have people ending emails along the lines of:

"My name is Joe Bloggs and I'm looking for a work placement. I don't want to make tea all day, so would prefer some in cab work. I'm a good driver on that Rail Simulator for the PC, so I'll start from there".
