As the title says really - who has drivers based in Crewe?

From my own research i know of Freightline and Virgin. Anymore?

Im desperate to work out of Crewe - hence the question.

Arriva Trains Wales??

Virgin don't have drivers based there unless on a PNB, but there has been talk of a Crewe and Holyhead depot

Serco Infrastructure Monitoring - (the company you work for if you want to drive the yellow test trains: very experienced drivers need only apply for this)

None of these companies are particularly easy to get into for beginners to the industry, with the difficulty increasing progressively as you move down my list.

Virgin, Colas Rail, GBRf, Cross Country, Northern and WCR also operate in and out of Crewe; but none of these have a train crew signing on point here.

Also consider any "Driver Operator" / "MDD" positions which may come up at the various Traction Maintenance Depots and yards in and around Crewe.

If you really are desperate and can bear commuting 30+ miles or so from Crewe then you could always target Northern at Manchester Picc & Vic they are the TOC that is usually recruiting in large numbers these days and probably will be for some time.

The test trains are worked by DBS now.

I believe the "Infrastructure Monitoring" drivers are employed by DB but the operator of the trains are Serco. The test train drivers drive test trains only, they are a different sector to the DB freight drivers. The nature of the work ranges all over the network, having a massive route card, driving classic traction and lodging in top quality hotels overnight. It looks a good job, non-repetitive and interesting, it's perhaps the only driving job that I would ever possibly consider leaving MDD driving for.

DBS own Serco, the staff were TUPE'd over and the drivers are in the employ of DBS.

The drivers have the same T&C'S as ordinary DBS drivers, wages are the same and there is lots of lodging away from home and nightshifts.

'Very experienced' is not a requirement - their latest recruit has 15 years less time in the driving grade than me, a relative novice.

The trains, however, ARE yellow ...

Can I ask why you're desperate to work out of Crewe?

You increase your options massively by being willing to commute to Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Chester etc

Exactly that reason....to avoid the long commutes. I live in Middlewich.
