Northern have, I believe, refurbished all the ex FNW 156s and is now concentrating on the large ex arriva fleet

Are there any pics of an ex northern spirit/arriva 156 with the new interior? northernrail forums no longer exists

Arriva (Trains Wales, I presume you mean) haven't or ever had any 156s.

Were the ATN 156s the last ones to have the original grey/red chevron fabric before the current interior was introduced? Most 156s seemed to have the original seats replaced after barely 10 years in service.

The Northern Spirit 156s were refurbished between 1999 and 2001, I think that the Scotrail units survived marginally longer with the original grey/red chevron seat fabric, and of course they have retained the original Ashbourne seating, albeit with different fabric. I certainly remember travelling on the West Highland line around the turn of the millennium and considering it something of a novelty that the vast majority of the fleet still had their original interiors when many of my local (Northern Spirit) units had already gone through their refurbishment.

Both the North West and Central area 156 units had refurbishments initiated under Regional Railways immediately prior to privatisation in 1994/5, with the Central area refurbishment continuing into very early Central Trains days with the units continuing to have Regional Railways "Express" livery applied.
