Hi folks,

FIrst Great Western advertise Volo tv in coach D on their HST's. Does anyone know if this includes the table seats?

Thanks,

Adam

It's advisable if you want to travel at a Volo TV seat, that you reserve a seat using the options on the FGW booking engine, especially on busy services

Might I suggest that volo is a bit rubbish, tried looking for comedies and all I could find was Miranda and a few other weak sit coms. Most of the programs on volo in order to try to appeal to most people tend to be very dull.

Moving Map = Sorted ;)

Seriously though, Volo doesn't really seem to be the hit that was expected, most people just seem to ignore it in my experience..

I'm sure Volo used to have Outnumbered but they didn't have it last time I used it, the rest was just crap. Also it annoyingly just turned off at random points ranging from every minute to 20 minute gaps and that was everyone's tv.

Since VoloTV became a free service on the HSTs there has been no change to the programme content. Having now watched everything I want to watch I only use it now for the moving map.

Ultimately I think it's a system that has got it's marketing wrong. FGW got it on the cheap from the promoters, but they should've gone with wi-fi installation instead.

Meh, it would reset and return to the home screen every 90 seconds or so when I tried using it on a 4 hour trip.

I agree that the resetting is annoying. As I recall, in the very early days it didn't do that?

The best thing I think that could be provided is streaming footage of a forward facing camera from the cab. How difficult can that be?

I agree with everyone else, the Moving Map is the best feature, but when I last used it it kept going off every 90 seconds, so I had to near-continually tap it to make it stay. I also seem to recall there were travel info pages for TfL and similar?

How much genuine demand would there be though, outside of rail enthusiast circles? Some would flick it in for a few minute and think 'Ah, cool' but that would probably be it.

Last time I used it, there was no content whatsoever. Tried it at multiple seats.

Even when there is, it's excessively limited.

Terrible system and, for me, not worth the bother of walking down to Coach D just for that!

Not rail, but Oman Air does this with multiple cameras on the plane (forward and downward-facing IIRC, maybe another). It's pretty cool, even for non-air-enthusiasts, so I can see people being interested in the forward-facing CCTV on trains.

Certainly possible (DBS management train has this facility) but probably not a good idea with the likelihood of the train hitting somebody / something...............
