My colleague says his season ticket for the above is about £5.5k

This is includes zones 1-6, he says this is the only way you can buy it to get to Bank.

Did I read about being able to get to Moorgate as it is a London Terminal or was that a KX thing?

You can only get on the tube to Moorgate for free if your ticket is to London Terminals and has validity between Finsbury Park and London Terminals, which a ticket from Milton Keynes does not.

This is how it always works - it seems like you're paying for more than you need until you realise that you're not paying for MK-London plus Zones 1-6, you're paying for MK-Zone 6, plus Zones 1-6.

MK-London is £4620 so in effect you get a Zones 1-6 Travelcard for £880, which is cheaper than even a Z1-2 annual on its own. Or put another way, the fewer Zones you pay for, the further you would pay for the rail part.

There are a few cases where it's cheaper to buy <station>-Z56 or -Z456 plus an "inboundary" Travelcard (mostly from Essex & Herts IIRC), but in general the Z1-6 offers the best value.

I presume for the MK ticket it is very slightly cheaper to buy the season to "London Terminals" then pay for 2x z1 journeys on Oyster.
However, you only need to do a couple of extra journeys per month for the travelcard to pay for itself..

As an aside I assume journeys to/from Clapham Junction on Southern wouldn't be possible on the London Terminals ticket..

No, it has to be valid on National Rail from Finsbury Park to Moorgate and also on National Rail from Finsbury Park to Kings Cross.

The only tickets that I believe have this are to/from "London Terminals" group, not to a named station.

Yes, if commuting fewer than 210 days per year travelling in the peak both ways. If either Tube leg is off peak, the saving will be greater (assuming Gold Card added to their Oyster), and even more if some journeys can be made by bike.

There is a MK-Waterloo Via Kensington Olympia fare at £4524 which would be valid for this journey. However, I think that the Any Permitted couldn't be used for this, despite the season costing more, as the Routeing Guide specifies that the SDS/CDS should be used for fares comparisons wherever possible, and these are more expensive for the Via Kensington Olympia fares. Happy to be corrected though.

Pretty much spot on.

The Manual says "where travel is into Kings Cross" on a London Terminals ticket you can go to Moorgate on the Underground (but not on FCC Thameslink).

Bits of that are not up to date though, so it could raise more questions than answers elsewhere. It still treats Thameslink into Moorgate via Barbican as dual available, and that was removed following the Thameslink closure. Mind as it's the 2000 version you'd expect it to be a bit suspect...

LT cards used to be available as an alternative to travelcards - they allowed travel on London Transport services - Buses, Underground , DLR, select bits of BR - I *think* they had the same validity as a current TfL staff pass (barring the recent LO additions to that).

EDIT: Having looked at the agreement the validity appears to be same except that the TfL staff pass is not valid between the Ruislips and obviously King Cross to Moorgate by Thameslink is tricky now.
