K&ESR Website said:
Robertsbridge Station is set to echo to the distinctive sights, sounds and smells of steam on Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd September as the re-opening of the Rother Valley Railway (RVR) between Robertsbridge and Bodiam takes a major step forward.

The trains will be the first public steam-hauled passenger services to serve the station since 1961 and one of the locomotives that worked the very last train will again be in action over half-a-century later! 141 Year-old locomotive No.32670 along with three Victorian carriages will be working special shuttle services from a brand new RVR platform along around half-a-mile of newly re-laid line from Robertsbridge Station to Northbridge Street. Steam shuttles will operate at Robertsbridge every 20 minutes from 10.30am to 4.00pm. Souvenir Edmonson tickets will be issued to commemorate the event.

In addition a Steam and Diesel service will run between Tenterden and Bodiam, with a free heritage bus from Robertsbridge to Northiam. As well as this a DMU service is running between Tenterden and Junction Road.

Fares are £15 adult, £14 Senior, £10 Child, £42 Family with an additional £5 each to travel from Robertsbridge to Northbridge Street.

To make it easier to get there Southeastern Trains are stopping 2tph at Robertsbridge on the Saturday instead of 1 tph.

At Robertsbridge the track and platform have not been completed and the station area is still a building site.
I shall be watching (from a distance) with interest.....................

We are confident that sufficient track and the platform will be complete for the event.
Probably the longest point on a heritage railway was installed yesterday by a group of volunteers from London Underground, leaving around 6 lengths of track to lay to complete the loop. Tamping is due to be carried out w/c 25/8. Contractors building the platform about 10 days left

This answers a query I was going to post as I was wondering how things were progressing with linking the 2 railways.

If by linking the two railways you mean Tenterden to the main line at Robertsbridge that is realistically some years off yet. We are basically in the informal negotiations stage of the same process that Chiltern are bringing to a conclusion with their Marylebone to Oxford link. This gala however is a good opportunity for people (doubters?)to see what effort has been expended by the volunteers and the financial input put in by our backers. Whilst as the negotiations and the drawing up of the T&WO progress I'm not at liberty to discuss them here but on the day you will be able to see the five bridges that have been rebuilt and the brand new 6 coach platform alongside the main line. I don't believe that anybody who visits us on these days will doubt how serious we are. If anybody would like a personal tour please pm me.

For Steamybrian's interest; tamping of the phase 1 track was completed on Friday night. Base of the first lampposts are installed on the platform, brick edging 2/3s complete.
Surfacing due on Thursday. All greens for the event.

What is planned to be working the diesel hauled services? I'd be interested in a rare advertised 33052 working...

33052 is out of service, unlikely to return this year.

So this leaves either D2023 or one of the industrials ?
Or is the DMU doing the diesel turns ?
The timetable is available to download on the main KESR website DMMU is err DMMU, Diesel is scheduled to be the class 14.
A lot of especially the younger volunteers at the railway would like to run more diesel loco hauled services, sadly however we seem to struggle to attract paying customers in Kent for them. Its a shame because with the gradients and curves we probably have the most thrash potential in the South!

A lot of it is about marketing. I cannot remember hearing of a 'Crompton' running day at the KESR being announced/advertised in recent years -if a railway wants to attract punters for something, then it needs to shout about it! People aren't going to travel hundreds of miles if a loco is going to do a round trip either, but they might if a loco is doing 4 or 5 trips.

How far off is the 08 from being in traffic again? An 03 and 08 will attract people who are out for a 'line in the book' - 80+ people went out for the Bluebell 09 at the beginning of this month. Put the Crompton out and the DMU too, and maybe an industrial as well. I know the 03 got used one day during one of the May galas a couple of years back, but it wasn't marketed, and I think I only found out which day it was running a few days beforehand (and it wasn't the day I'd arranged to go). Get the likes of PLEG involved to find a suitable weekend (perhaps even one where the 33 is out at the Spa Valley as well, enabling those travelling from further afield to make a weekend of it) and people should come.

Do keep us informed of the progress of work....
...Thanks
Terrier 32670 and one vintage carriage arrived at Robertsbridge yesterday. Two more carriages today. All ready for the weekend.
Apparently they are attracting a lot of enquiries from mainline passengers

I wasn't able to make the event this weekend sadly. I hope it's all gone well for the Railway's concerned. Visited KESR a couple of times before & find it highly enjoyable & friendly. No doubt the RVR is just the same ;)

Good luck to all involved with the re-building/extension project. I've no doubts your efforts will be more than rewarded in due course.

Got down there yesterday and had a nice day, spending most of it behind the K&ESR's Class 14.

Had a nice day and enjoyed the open top bus from Robertsbridge to Northiam!

A few photos below. Clicking on one will take you to the enlarged version and the rest of the set.

Thanks to all who attended. the event was a spectacular success with around 2000 visitors to the Robertsbridge site over the weekend. There are some brilliant photos around. I understand Robertsbridge Cricket Club are looking to charge photographers for admission on future events!

I heard a lot of photographers saying they got some great pics of the match with the train behind. I heard a big appeal after the first ball, was it a golden duck? (Or golden Terrier!)

Those who know the Thomas series will know that Duck was a GWR 0-6-0 pannier tank......
Sorry, couldn't resist it :)
