Save Trimley Station

Not sure if this is the right place for this thread. Anyway. Trimley station building is in desperate need of repair. There is a trust that has been set up to raise funds for the repair and refurbishment of the buildings. Their website is- www.trimleystation.org

Does anyone know the history of the station etc?

The building needs our help now or it will be lost forever. Thanks

The railway line was constructed in 1877 by the Felixstowe Railway and Pier Company and ten years later, in 1887, it was sold to the Great Eastern Railway. The railway as constructed was of single track construction, but at Trimley station when it was opened in 1891, a second line was laid to allow trains to pass in the area of that station and Trimley station had two platforms to serve both lines. That loop line was severed in 1987 at the eastern end and only the northern platform was retained in use.

As a matter of general interest, there was a now-closed station of Orwell that was situated in-between Derby Road and Trimley, but that was closed in 1959 with very low passenger usage stated to be the reason. That station closure helped to improve the end to end branch line journey times.
