Birminghan New Street to Darlington

On the 14th September I am travelling from Kidderminster to Darlington (returning on the 15th). Having investigated various advanced ticketing options etc.. I have come to the conclusion that the easiest option for me is an off peak return.

Originally I was planning on going from Kidderminster to B'Ham Moore Street, walking to New St and catching a direct XC service to Darlington but having had a think I am now considering using the flexibility of the ticket to make a bit of a day of it.

Current thinking is to get the 9:10am loco hauled service from Kidderminster to Moore Street, walk to New St to catch a XC Voyager service to York, change at York onto an EC HST to Darlington.

What are people's thoughts on that plan?

I don't need to be in Darlington till 3 or 4 in the afternoon but it is my understanding that I can make as many breaks of journey as I want on an off peak return, is that correct?

If anyone has any suggestions on what to do/routes to take/stations to stop at it'd be greatly appreciated.]

edit: Just to add; would it be worth hanging around at New St/York/somewhere else in order to see anything interesting? I'm primarily interested in loco hauled stock/freight.

Not sure why this has been moved to the fares section I am more than happy with the fare I was looking for feedback on making the journey interesting in terms of rolling stock and track/views etc...

To get back OT does anyone have any ideas on what to do to maximise my enjoyment of the trip? Ideally I'd like to see as many loco hauled/freight services as I can as well as enjoying some nice views (including depots etc... ideally).

I have reviewed the thread and have moved it into Trip Planning, as that is what this thread is about, as opposed to fares or general railway discussion.

If there is an issue with moderation decisions, it is best to get in touch with the staff team directly, so that problems can be resolved efficiently. Well I've just boarded the 9:10 logo hauled Chiltern service out of Kidderminster and I have to say these refurbished Mk3s are fantastic. Definitely made the right decision going slightly earlie to get this service. CCurrently waiting to depart with 67012 A Shropshire Lad on the back and a DVT up front.

I'll be walking from Moore Street to New Street to get an XC voyager to York where I'll be getting an EC HST up to Darlington.

I've got a bit of time to spare at New Street anything I should be looking out for?

Just boarded the Voyager and predictably it stinks! Should be ok though as I think I'll get used to it fairly quickly, big step down from the Chiltern service though.

Staying in this until York where I have an hours break before getting on the EC service, any advice on things to see or do? Any interesting traction likely to be passing through early on a Saturday afternoon?

I assume you've already been and gone, but there's a variety of things usually at York. Unfortunately there are engineering works, so not many EC services around, compared to normal. Lots of HST's though!
