Sat on platform one at Sheffield at the moment and a 185 stopped on platform two. I noticed that the rear car CDL light was blinking. Does anyone know why?
Thanks.
Thanks.
On desiros the light blinks on the carriage where the door control panel is active
CDL = Central door locking
In other words, it's where the guard is and it's a feature I think all new built stock should have!
SWT Desi's also have the flashing light feature, presumably it's standard on all of them?

Just to be mildly pedantic, it's a Hazard Light on a unitThough I must confess ODIL is a new one on me, perhaps somebody somewhere has decided to make up a new acronym?!
As for whether it's a good idea or not; I am not so sure as it still remains lit even as the train is pulling out of the platform, so not sure how you can tell whether the doors in that car which the Guard is in have got interlock or not.

CDL refers to HSTs and coaching stock with slam doors, to which secondary door locking has been fitted in the form of CDL bolts (the primary 'lock' being the door handle and catch mechanism, which of course keeps the door closed but doesn't actually lock it in the normal sense). Units fitted with automatic doors don't have a 'central locking' system as such, as the doors lock by virtue of being closed.

I here I thought it was called BIL, Bodyside Indicator Light!
