Isn't this like the third one at MK this year?

Somebody else said that, I can only think of one other, a few Saturdays ago? The 'suspicious circumstances' one on platform 3?

Without wishing to appear macabre, what exactly took place there? Was somebody pushed?

I don't know the details. I just read the police were treating it as suspicious. I believe it was a freight train at the north end of platform 3.

There was a suicide at the end of January this year as well.

Can't believe I forgot that. I was working in Station Square at the time. The helicopter landed right in the square.

and ofcouse suicidal people could never manage to pop multiple pills from a blister pack

Basically with most suicides, the individual reaches a crisis point where they perceive everything to be so bad they need to end it, this normally lasts between 20-30minutes, in the time of the they are at this crisis point the person will stay compliant with any rules and regulations.

The idea behind the blister packs is that it takes so long to pop enough to kill yourself that you end up being out of the crisis point by the time you have finished. Similarly the same theory is behind a lot of the yellow hatching on fast line platforms and platform end gates that are going in...

Are the means above going to prevent suicides completely? Not at all, but they can HELP in their prevention!

There was also the man who was burned to death on top of the container just south of MK on the down slow a few months ago. The train stopped by Winterhill access after reports of something on fire on the roof by carriage cleaners at Bletchley. The fire also tripped the OHLE for a short time.

That's pretty grim :( I pitty that Driver, possibly worse than a 'one under' I would imagine.

Very tragic way to lose your life. Although all indications were it was not suicide but someone having a 'free ride' and paying the price for it. It was believed they may have been on fire all the way from Leighton Buzzard / Linslade.

Bloody hell. Is there a news story about that anywhere? Not sure how anyone could fail to notice the danger of touching the wires.

Though I've not heard anything about that thing in particular in particular, I've heard many other stories and statistics that imply that suicide is very much a "spur of the moment" thing (at least the eventual act, obviously there must have been long-term underlying problems for someone to get to that stage) - and doing simple things to make it just slightly harder to do has a surprising effect on suicide rates.

EDIT: Ah, someone has already mentioned this in more detail.

The local web news, MKWeb, has today reported a £10M spend by Network Rail on better fencing at "key locations" between London and Rugby.

Seems like there's been another person hit by a train unfortunately - nothing running between Coventry and Birmingham International. Thoughts obviously go out to all concerned.

Can you divert diesel-hauled trains via Nuneaton if that section's closed? Or via Leamington?
