Has anyone visited Sugar Loaf station?

Yes, went there once in the Summer. Very isolated which was good always nice to have some space to yourself! Found a nice walking path up over the rail bridge and goes up a hill with some nice views, certainly passed the time and scored the station for visiting.

To show how long ago it was, I got a Wessex Trains Class 150 back from Sugar Loaf - Swansea!!

I've got off there a number of times (well, about haf a dozen!). Great walking around there and easy to make your way down to Llanwrtyd which is a fascinating little town with great beer and food. Not sure if you've missed the Man v Horse race or the bog snorkelling championships which are fun times to be there!

Wessex never went beyond Cardiff.

Wessex never went beyond Cardiff.

Could have been a Wessex set though, especially in the period shortly after the creation of Wessex and Wales and Borders.

This was an Arriva service, not the first one I saw on the Heart-of-Wales. I forget if it was on loan to Arriva or if Arriva actually kept them?

I visited Sugar Loaf around four years ago, its a very pleasant area, the station is just off the main road A483 that follows the line, if I recall there was a steep set of stairs onto the platform.

Out of interest, train is the only means of public transport in the area except for the Fridays only X 14 bus that makes a single call.

I went there earlier this year. There is a report I made buried in the Trip Reports subforum. I drove there as I'm taking a picture of every station in GB (not NI) to tick them all off (Practicalities of doing this by train would be long-winded, ie: Pilning, HOW line, Altnabreac, etc...)

I arrived at 5.45am on a Sunday so it was rather quiet but with that crisp morning feel. It made a good place to have a nap and get changed away from the road though :P
