How did the driver not stop in time? Did the cows not use their horns?

I was going to post a serious response to this thread, but having seen the last 10 posts or so are just the same crap jokes that get posted every time something involving cows and railways occurs, I'm just going to post this equally crap rant instead. Pack it in people, it's extraordinarily tiresome! :(

I don't get it... where was the punchline?

As for the suspect animal, how dairy do such a thing! Udderly inconsiderate. Would have increased some peoples journey times by calf an hour!

You were lucky it was running, got kicked off my Southern when it was terminated at Watford yesterday afternoon due to some farce with a Pendolino standing on the Up Fast at Leighton Buzzard with a roof hatch open.

Sorry this isn't cow related..

Just out of interest, what is a roof hatch? How could it get open? Thanks.

I'm not a railway employee but have enough common sense to realise that of course guards and drivers finish up in the wrong place when things like this happen, and that trains get cancelled or terminated short as a result. And I couldn't help feeling sorry for the staff at Euston who were getting (somewhat understandably) hassled by people wanting to know what they should do, but who seemed to be as much in the dark about things as everyone else. What I do find difficult to accept is the poor management and the lack of information (to satff as well as customers, it seems) as to what happens next. Remember, we are talking four hours plus after the incident

.

There seems to be a general failure to have a contingency plan to provide information across a lot of the transport system. It's not confined to the railways.

How many times, following major disruption at an airport for example, are the news bulletins full of people complaining that they were hanging around for hours and nobody was telling them anything.

I appreciate the bulk of the effort has to go into resolving the problem that initially caused the situation, in this case cows on the line. But it does seem that TOCs need to put more effort into having proper channels of communication in place so that staff on trains and stations get updated with details such as trains having to run short for example.

If people knew that a certain train wasn't going to run, or was going to be terminated short, at least they could think about making other arrangements. Not being told anything is what causes aggravation.

In my own case I only suffered a 30 minute delay so was pretty lucky. But we were stopped near Wolverton on two separate occasions and still nothing from the TM. I tweeted VT and they replied almost immediately that here was an "incident" but it was at least ten minutes later before the TM told the train anything. Obviously if the TM wasn't being told that's no fault of hers.

Can't you have serious posts and non-serious ones ?

Perhaps this forum needs a bit of humour.
