Eight people have been taken to hospital after two trains crashed in Norfolk.

The collision on platform six at Norwich station happened at about 00:10 BST.

The Greater Anglia Great Yarmouth to Norwich service and a stationary East Midlands Trains unit were involved in the "low speed" collision.

The ambulance service said all eight people - including four who were stretchered away - had minor injuries.

A spokeswoman for East Midlands Trains said its train, which was empty at the time, has been removed from service because of the damage caused.

Not really breaking news when it happened 12 hours ago. Regarding your comment, would a Greater Anglia and EMT train join together?

BBC really are behind on breaking news, ITV reported it initially 3 hours ago!

further from ITV.com http://www.itv.com/news/anglia/story/2013-07-21/norwich-train-crash/

2 hours ago Last night the 23.34 Great Yarmouth to Norwich service struck an empty, stationary train on arrival at Norwich station. The train arriving at Norwich was travelling at very slow speed.

There were 31 passengers on board. Eight passengers have sustained injuries which are being described as minor.

Our first priority has been and remains the welfare of the passengers and traincrew involved. An investigation into the incident led by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) is underway and we are assisting them with their enquiries."

All eight passengers who were injured in a low-speed train crash at Norwich Station have now left hospital.

A spokesman for the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital said the passengers had received minor injuries. One man who was kept in overnight has now been sent home

I wouldn't expect much info for some time, probably until the RAIB have done. Such a minor collision the media wont be interested in, so we probably wont hear no more until the RAIB reports.

It all depends on when a contributing member of this site sees the news and posts a thread here. You are rather disingenuous. You didn't lead with the news in a thread.

So the EMT unit is likely to be a 158, the GA unit, likely to be a 156?

Edit: Thanks dk1.

At the time of posting BBC were reporting as "Breaking News" on their website banner, this was where my comments were aimed. This was 11 hours after this incident and 3 hours after ITV had "broken" the news. At this time it was no longer "breaking news" it was BBC have finally got round to posting news they were probably provided in the early hours of the morning.

From the pictures i've seen online there were two 158s in the bay platform. Didn't look like there would have been enough room for the 156 as well?

I believe platform six is a six car bay.

Seems correct from the Great Yarmouth Mercury story

http://www.greatyarmouthmercury.co...._yarmouth_to_norwich_train_unfolded_1_2288957

The Greater Anglia train left Yarmouth station at 11.34pm with 31 passengers, the train driver and conductor onboard.

As it arrived into platform six at Norwich train station, two empty East Midlands Trains were stationary in the station having completed their journeys.

For a reason that is still to be determined, the Greater Anglia train shunted into one of the East Midlands Trains, causing that to shunt into the second one.

The train did not derail and while the crash took place at ‘low speed’ the impact was strong enough to injure eight of the passengers. Both the train driver and conductor were unhurt and will be helping out with the investigation.

Crews from the British Transport Police, Norfolk Fire and Rescue, the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) and Norfolk Constabulary attended and of the eight hospitalised, four were put on a stretcher to be taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

All have since been released, so minor were their injuries.

Greater Anglia despatched its own emergency team to Norwich train station and the remaining 23 passengers were looked after by them until they were able to be taken home.

The Greater Anglia train is now back at the Norwich depot, where it is being assessed to see if any repairs need to be made.

Jonathan Denby, head of corporate affairs, explained that it was too early to determine what caused the crash and whether it was a case of human error or a technical fault.

The incident has now been handed over to the Rail Accident Investigation Branch, which has launched an investigation.

Trains from Norwich station were today running as normal, with little sign of this morning’s drama evident there.

Trains are being talked by the signal opposite Crown Point until it can be determined that signal failure was not the cause. Permissive working is permitted in all platforms at Norwich & the driver should have received the 'calling on' as opposed to the main aspect.

The only visible damage is the cover of the coupling electrical connection box fell off the 156 and the first 158...

Lots of 47 action this week I expect !

This driver & the one involved in Saturdays cat A at Yarmouth are two of the few 47 trained drivers. Expect cover for the top/tail set will now be another issue.

With regard to the delay by the BBC in reporting this incident members must remember that the aforementioned organisation considers East Anglia a backwater of the UK so it probably took them a long time to find a telegraph operator to send the news to BH.

Fixed that for you!
